USTAD USMAN KHAN
was born into a life of music. A sixth generation
musician, third-generation sitar master
and the grandson of Ustad Rehmat Khan
(who in the 19th century codified the sitar
into its modern-day form), he received tutelage
starting at the age of six from his father,
Ustad Abdul Karim Khan of Dharwad. He is
known for his emotional interpretations and
for combining vocal and instrumental techniques
on the sitar. He has toured widely
throughout India and in France, Germany,
Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Australia, Japan,
Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, South Korea,
and the U.S. and Canada.
NADA YOGA
MUSIC OF THE MYSTIC
Nada is the Sanskrit word for
sound or tone. The blending of
classical Indian instrumentaiton––
Sitar, Tabla and Tambura––into
your yoga practice creates a
soundscape for deep healing. In
the Music of the Mystic Series,
we bring tradition back into the
practice. Ragas are designed to
reach the listener on a deeper
level, to unearth what lies within––just
as the practice of yoga
aims to do. Breathe and move
to the sounds of the sitar, tabla,
tambura played by true masters
who have devoted their lives to
healing music.
