Our Bishops !
TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
A new name for this feast, long known as Corpus Christi or
“Body of Christ,” points to an important recovery of Communion from
the shared chalice, the Precious Blood, in the Roman Catholic liturgy.
For many centuries, only the priest received from the chalice. Now, over
the last forty years, the cup has been offered more frequently to the
faithful. Sadly, perhaps because it is not offered at all Masses, or because
people are free to pass by the offered cup, it can be seen by some
as a “take it or leave it” option.
Some important meanings surface, however, when we drink
from the common cup, such as our desire to participate in the pouring
out of Christ’s love. Bread is the staff of life, eaten by necessity even in
times of pain. Wine, on the other hand, is the mark of festivity, a pledge
of joy, a sign of unity between our altar table and the banquet feast of
heaven. The center of the Gospel today is Jesus speaking of the pouring
out of his blood, and his offer of a cup of blessing to be shared as a sign
of his love. There is no better response than to take and drink, and no
better way to mark this feast.

The Mass
The American bishops have called for “A Fortnight for Freedom” during the two-week period
from June 21 to July 4 to focus “all the energies the Catholic community can muster” for
religious liberty. In the Diocese of Orlando, Bishop John Noonan has asked all the faithful to
participate in the celebration of Mass on July 4th to pray for religious freedom. So here at
Our Lady of Lourdes we will have a special July 4th Mass at 8:15 am with lots of patriotic
music and special prayers for religious liberty.
As you know, The Department of Health and Human Services mandate, is requiring almost all
private health plans to cover contraception, sterilization and abortion-inducing drugs.
The Fortnight of Freedom is a concerted effort of prayer to help this not come to pass!

Church
Parking
We are blessed as a parish community to have
many parishioners and visitors join us regularly for
our weekend and weekday Masses. What a joy to
join together with so many of our fellow Christians
to express our thanksgiving and praise. We do,
though, have one parking issue that has recently
arisen.
The Fire Lane in the front of the church is regularly
being used by parishioners and guests for
parking during Mass. And the issue has arisen lately
where emergency personnel have not been able to
access the church from this lane due to people
parking there.
Please refrain from using this fire lane for Mass
parking. There are regularly un-used parking spaces
in the Ministry Building parking lot, and in the
main parking lot of the Melbourne Public Library (on
the east side…we are not permitted to park in the
small staff lot on the west side of the library).

“El Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo”

“Levantaré el cáliz de salvación e invocaré el nombre del Señor.”

Hoy la Iglesia se centra en la Eucaristía. Las lecturas
de hoy nos recuerdan la gran conexión que existe entre los sacrificios
de sangre de la antigüedad y el sacrificio incruento
que ofrecemos ahora. La lectura del Éxodo describe un rito
solemne para que los israelitas nunca olviden su pacto con Dios.
La lectura de la Carta a los Hebreos nos lleva de los antiguos
sacrificios de animales a los primeros esfuerzos para
adorar al Dios vivo. Nuestro sacrificio es el Cuerpo y la Sangre
del Hijo de Dios. A causa de Cristo tenemos una nueva alianza.
El Evangelio según San Marcos relata la creación de
ese pacto, la conocida historia de la Última Cena. Si contrastamos
la historia del sacrificio de animales que vemos
aquí, se nos desafía a escuchar con nueva atención, para recordar
el gran precio que pagó por nuestra salvación. Jesús
dio su cuerpo y cada gota de su sangre por nosotros.

What is
Eucharistic Adoration?
As Catholics, we believe in the
Real Presence of Jesus' Body,
Blood, Soul and Divinity in the Eucharist.
After communion, the
consecrated hosts are taken to
the tabernacle where He yearns to
receive a visit from all of us, His
children, for a heart to heart moment.
Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament
takes place every Wednesday
following the 8:15 a.m. Mass
and finishes at 5:30 pm, with Benediction
before the 6:00 p.m.
Mass. When Jesus is exposed, He
needs to be in company of his children
(adorers) and He can't be left
alone during these hours. He is
our Guest of Honor - in the same
way you would not leave your
guest unattended. Prayer before
the Blessed Sacrament is nothing
less than a close, private conversation
with a living person . . .
Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. It is
about as close as we can come in
this life to talking with God face to
face.

group. What is a prayer warrior?
People that volunteer to

families during our youth group
