The past year has been a busy time for the 

team at Prim-Ed Publishing, with exciting, 

new developments such as the recent launch 

of our new website and the release of new

Lizzie and the Birds 

Lizzie and the Birds is an imaginative text 

that will inspire a wide variety of spoken language, 

reading and writing opportunities and challenging

Teacher Guide 

Not only do the children get to read a heart-warming story, the 

teacher is able to delve deeper into the story through the use of a 

comprehensive Teacher Guide. The Teacher Guide provides fully 

developed lesson ideas, activities and samples of children’s work. 

Actual classroom displays and projects completed by different 

classes are included to inspire teachers to build a unit of work around 

the story. The Teacher Guide provides photocopiable scaffolds,

ACTIVITY 3: Feed the Monster 

Materials required: Large cardboard cutout of a monster, firmly attached to 

the end of a shoebox; blank squares of different coloured 

cardboard (one for each different sound used.) 

Instructions: Decide on a simple two-sound word such as on, at, is or a CVC 

(consonant/vowel/consonant) word such as box, hat, cat to 

demonstrate the process. 

Say the individual sounds that make 

up the word, and as each sound is 

stated, ‘feed’ one coloured square of 

cardboard into the monster’s mouth.

Teaching Writing Strategies is a

Primary Geography is a comprehensive six-book series 

covering the geography curriculum for Years 1–6. 

Primary Geography enables teachers to bring the wider world 

into the classroom by studying local, national and global issues 

through a range of engaging learning activities. Through an 

exploration of the different topics in each book, pupils acquire

REVIEW ‘Generally I think the books are great. They have good tasks within 

them and certainly provide plenty of opportunity for pupils to make progress. 

There is a variety of geography that covers the continents of the world but 

through both human and physical geography. I feel that the books would be quite 

easy to follow as a scheme of work or just as nicely provide ideas for schemes 

of work. I like the variety of tasks - in particular there are some which focus on 

literacy and use of keywords. There are also good tasks on completing sentences 

using text and maps to help pupils (for example looking at major rivers in Africa and 

having to read text to fill in which river matches up with which sentence). There 

are other examples too which follow a similar structure. I like that there are tasks 

which develop pupils map skills. Getting pupils to use and understand maps from 

an early age is really important. Something which in my opinion does not happen 

enough at primary level. The assessment tasks in the books are good too.’
