Paint Night at Roxy Theater
benefits Trinity Services
Trinity’s next event is Karaoke
Night Sept. 28
You never know until you try, as the idiom
says. On the evening of Thursday, Aug.
30, more than 50 aspiring painters attended
Paint Night at the Roxy Theater to try their
hand at putting brush to canvas.
The event was a fundraiser in support of
Trinity Services Inc., a nonprofit organization
that provides services and support to
children and adults with developmental and/
or intellectual disabilities and mental illness,
according to Sherry Ladislas, director of development
at Trinity Services.
“Our goal is to help them flourish,” she
said. “We want them not only to learn and
grow, but really our goal is to help them
flourish and succeed.”
Trinity Services operates in 30 communities
across eight counties in Illinois and
is funded by the State and community fundraising
efforts, such as Thursday’s Paint
Night at the Roxy, Ladislas said.
Although Trinity Services has owned the
Roxy Theater since the early 1990s, the organization
only recently renovated and opened
the building for community events. The Paint
Night at the Roxy event was the organization’s
first Paint Night fundraiser and is part
of Trinity Services’ effort to use the newly
renovated Roxy Theater to help raise money
and promote the organization’s resources.
Eventually, Trinity Services hopes to begin
hosting community fundraising events at the
theater once a month, Ladislas said.
“We just started hosting events here,” she
said. “Every bit of money that comes into
the Roxy goes to Trinity Services… We rely
heavily on fundraising to support the needs
of our residents when the funds from the
state fall short. … We’re looking to do some
fun things.”
Among those present at the event was
Tyler Dundek, a New Lenox resident who
worked for the company that renovated the
theater. After seeing an ad for the event,
Dundek invited his sister Sam Skinner, to
come with him to see the theater and support
the cause.
“It’s pretty awesome to see inside now,
especially considering what it was,” Dundek
said. “They’ve done a lot of good with it.”
“It’s cool to see his work,” Skinner added.
Attendees at the Paint Night had the opportunity
to paint one of two designs — an
owl or a sunflower.
“It’s a nice night to get out and enjoy family
and friends,” Ladislas said. “We want to
make sure people understand that we are a
resource in this community. Everyone knows
someone who is impacted by developmental
or intellectual disabilities, or with mental
illness. … Little fundraisers like this serve
many purposes. First and foremost, it raises
funds for Trinity Services; second, it helps
share with the community that we’re a resource
here; and third, it brings attention to
the Roxy.”
Attendees were enthusiastic to support the
cause while enjoying the evening of painting.
Joliet residents Paula Tomasko and
Paula Jones along with New Lenox resident
Suzy Kozar might not have been confident in
their painting, but they were happy to spend
time among their longtime friends.
“I always wanted to go to a painting party,
and this was a great opportunity,” Tomasko
said.
Kozar, who works at Trinity, attends many
of the fundraising events to support the
cause.
“They do a lot of great things,” Kozar said.
“It’s a great agency, and it’s nice to be able to
contribute to that.”
On Sept. 28, Trinity Services is to host Karaoke
Night at the Roxy Theater, and a Trivia
Night is to take place at the Roxy Theater on
Oct. 19.
