power entrusted to me, <strong>by</strong> Your giving the child’s will, into my power.<br />

And may a due sense of my own impotence, and Your Almighty Power<br />

working in me, combine to keep me humble and yet hopeful, conscious<br />

of my weakness, but confident in You. O God! teach me to <strong>for</strong>m and<br />

train the will of my child to refuse the evil and choose the good.<br />

Lord! make me very gentle and patient under a sense of my own<br />

willfulness. And very watchful, because of the sleepless vigilance of the<br />

enemy, and the hourly danger of my child. Ever faithful to fulfil my<br />

commission well. And very full of trust, because You are my Help and<br />

my Father.<br />

Twenty-Fourth Day – God’s Spirit in Our <strong>Children</strong><br />

`I will pour My Spirit upon thy seed, and My blessing on thy offspring. One shall<br />

say, I am the Lord’s; and another shall subscribe with his hand unto the Lord.’<br />

Isa. 44: 3, 5.<br />

Even as in the prophecy of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, quoted <strong>by</strong><br />

Joel on the day of Pentecost, express mention is made of the sons and<br />

daughters, so here too the blessing of an outpoured Spirit is made to the<br />

seed and offspring of God’s people. <strong>The</strong> root principle of the covenant,<br />

promising grace to the fathers <strong>for</strong> the children, to the children <strong>for</strong> the<br />

fathers’ sake and through the fathers, is to be the mark of the<br />

dispensation of the Spirit too. <strong>The</strong> promise is accompanied <strong>by</strong> the very<br />

distinct statement of what would be the fruit of the Spirit’s corning on<br />

the offspring. Not resting content with a religion inherited from the<br />
