Before freshman year started, my dad wanted me to be involved in a sport at the beginning of the school year to meet friends, and it was either golf or tennis that I wanted to do. Tennis was just not working, so I started taking golf lessons and picked it up more quickly than the average person, I think. What’s your favorite memory playing golf? Probably last year when we made it to sectionals. It was a really cool experience seeing all the talented people there, and knowing that all of our hard work had paid off by making it to sectionals as a team and not just individually because being with your team there is a lot better than just being there alone. What is the hardest part of the sport for you? The mental parts of the game. I get into my head a lot and kind of psyche myself out. I overthink a lot of things. I can pretty much execute everything, but I overthink things and I just get nervous. What would be the first thing you’d buy if you won the lottery? I would buy a car… A BWM, black. Which is the better part of your game: your long game or short game? Probably my short game because — they’re kind of equal, but when I’m having an off day with my longer approach shots I can usually save myself when I get on the green by making pretty long putts and just making up for it overall. What is your spirit animal? A butterfly because at times I can be quiet and reserved, but when it’s needed I’m also bright and energetic and positive. Photo submitted Have you started thinking about college yet? I kind of started to think about it, but it starts to overwhelm me, so I haven’t thought about it a lot. I don’t have an idea of a particular school, but I know the size of the school: not too big but not too small. Including yourself, who would be on your dream four-some? Jessica Loera, Emily McGlone and Sam Bollman. If you could own any kind of exotic pet, what would it be? Are turtles exotic? A sea turtle because they’re pretty and endangered. What’s a life lesson you’ve learned playing golf? I have learned to believe in myself. In life and in golf if you don’t trust yourself and believe in yourself you won’t go anywhere. You are your own biggest supporter and motivator. Interview conducted by T.J.
