FEATURE
hale sharks are the biggest fish
in the sea, and can grow to 20m
long once they reach adulthood.
Biologically a shark, they feed
like a whale on plancton and
small fishes, and are harmless
docile giants. In Malagasy, they
are known as “marokintana”,
the shark with many stars,
referring to the starry pattern
on its skin, which is unique to
each individual, like a human
fingerprint.
