Winners Dog and Best of Winners in the National Conformation
Show to finish his Altered Championship. “Maggie,” CH 4Mile
Chrissy EvertofShellBluff, brought home 8 th place in the Altered
Conformation Finals, followed by an Altered Premier in the
National Conformation Show. All three were expertly handled to
their wins by Stacey Hayes and the entire Shell Bluff crew.
Fall also brings our Georgia Jubilee Conformation, Stock,
and Farm Trials, hosted at Hardrock Farm by Cheryl Padgett. We
had lovely fall weather, wonderful stock, and three great days
for showing. Plans started taking shape to consider hosting an all
farm trial weekend, to potentially recognize ASCA’s first Farm
Trial Champions.
November was warmer than usual, so we were glad to host
our Turkey Trot Obedience and Rally trials indoors on mats with
air conditioning, at the ADOG Training Facility in Chamblee,
GA. Obedience and Rally are rather big locally, with more than
a dozen local AKC clubs hosting all breed trial weekends, so it
becomes a challenge finding a fall date with no local conflicts.
December normally brings cool weather for our Toys for Tots
Conformation shows, which raise toys and funds for the USMC
program. But this year, we had an early snow and ice storm
that stranded judges and handlers, and turned our planned four
shows into just two, with delayed starts due to the bad driving
weather. Strangely enough, temperatures warmed up and soared
into the 80s only a week later, so Santa Claus would have been
comfortable delivering presents in Christmas shorts. The warmth
continued into our January Paw Thaw 18 shows for Obedience
and Rally at ADOG in Chamblee, GA.
For 2018, we moved our Spring Fling trials from around St.
Patrick’s Day into early April, mostly hoping for better grazing
for the livestock at Hardrock Farm. Once again, Cheryl Padgett
hosted Farm, Arena stock trials, and Conformation shows. It was
cooler and wetter than we expected, but all the working dogs
seemed energized with the conditions. With more known about
the new Farm Trial Championship, we chose a time in June to host
our first all farm trials weekend, and were thrilled when Cheryl
Padgett’s “Bryn,” WTCH FTCH Crofton Bring It On AFTDcdsm
DNA-VP, earned ASCA’s second ever Farm Trial Championship.
Not long afterward, we finished our reporting period with Big
Kahuna Luau XII, once again a 3 Rally, 3 Obedience trial weekend
indoors, on mats, with air conditioning at ADOG in Chamblee,
GA. With outdoor temperatures soaring close to 100, and the 80%
humidity melting asphalt in the parking lot, we were glad for the
indoor comfort throughout. These trials all filled, or missed being
full by one or two runs only, being our largest entries in several
years. For our 2018 Pele’s Championship, Burlynne Mejeris and
“Woody,” Soundtrack’s Knock on Wood BN CD RNX REM,
were our winners, notable because this was the first time in eight
years this achievement was earned by a Junior Handler!
GAASC had fun figuring out what sort of item might
be presented as a keepsake for our new Farm Championship
titles. We present a New Champion neck medallion to anyone
completing an Altered or Intact Championship, an ATCH bar,
rosette, and Beanie Baby Cheetah for completing an ATCH, a
rosette and curly pink-haired Beanie Baby Witch for the WTCH
(the title letters are shown in letter beads on her hat), and a rosette
and “OTCHtopus” Beanie Baby with letter necklace, for the
Obedience Trial Championship. With a bit of brainstorming, we
Affiliate News
decided the most fitting Beanie Baby mascot for the Farm Trial
Championship, is the new “Ferdinand the Bull” character from
the animated movie. Ferdinand is sitting down, munching on a
rose, and now wearing a neck bandanna with ASCA FTCH. Any
club member finishing a Championship title away from home,
and any handler finishing a title at one of GAASC’s shows,
will bring home a special keepsake for completing these special
achievements.
Finally, GAASC would like to recognize the following dogs
and handlers who have earned Invitations to compete in the 2018
