helping communities navigate our digital world, Barclays has always been very aware of our role in<br />
society and supporting pioneers.<br />
We have connections in East Anglia that go back hundreds of years through our Quaker roots so<br />
we’re delighted to be working with <strong>STEAM</strong> <strong>Co</strong>. both at TEDxNorwichED as well as at <strong>STEAM</strong> <strong>Co</strong>. Days<br />

LET’S COLLABORATE<br />
FOR CREATIVITY<br />
There can be few causes closer to a creative heart than<br />
creativity itself. <strong>Creativity</strong> is what it is to be human. It powers<br />
our economy. It can, often does, connect our communities.<br />
<strong>Creativity</strong> can not only provide jobs <strong>for</strong> our children, but<br />
creative subjects and creative ways of teaching can help<br />
engage them in their learning. It can help them get better<br />
results, whether they have an academic or vocational bent.<br />
It is a critical skill that will help our children outpace artless<br />
robots, and ensure they not only survive, but thrive, in this<br />
Fourth Industrial Revolution with its connection economy.<br />
Yet creativity is at risk in our schools - misunderstood by<br />
many teachers, parents, voters and policy makers.<br />
Please help us. Let’s avert a <strong>Creativity</strong> Crisis. Together.<br />

A UNIQUE COLLABORATION<br />
These ‘school days like no other’<br />
are staged by a unique collaboration<br />
of carers which might include<br />
parents, grand parents, creatives,<br />
students, creatives, local businesses<br />
all working with teachers.<br />
We’re connecting with a range<br />
of community organisations from<br />
Rotary to the RSA and education<br />
groups and MATs as well as trade<br />
bodies and cultural institutions.<br />
INSPIRATION<br />
We run half day sampler school<br />
sessions as well as events and<br />
briefings around the UK to showcase<br />
creativity and connect communities.<br />
They might be evening or one to<br />
two day events <strong>for</strong> local children and<br />
communities to see <strong>STEAM</strong> <strong>Co</strong>. Days.<br />
We’ve held these in Liverpool,<br />
Sunderland and Ironbridge and an<br />

<strong>Co</strong>. Day sponsored by the Creative<br />
Agency Havas. A range of fantastic<br />
creative activites were on offer.<br />

discovered in an Oxfam bookshop<br />
by a grandad who volunteered there<br />
would lead to such a journey <strong>for</strong><br />
<strong>STEAM</strong> <strong>Co</strong>. and the UK’s children.<br />
Homer Hickam’s best selling book<br />
‘Rocket Boys’ (and box office smash<br />
movie ‘October Sky’) tells the story of<br />
how he and a group of friends were<br />
inspired by a teacher and encouraged<br />
by his mother to make rockets in their<br />
dead end West Virginian coal mining<br />
town back in the 50’s.<br />
Homer went on to work <strong>for</strong> NASA<br />
and has inspired millions worldwide.<br />
We combined this story with our<br />
Rocket Science activity and took it to<br />
Camp Bestival. See film on website<br />
It was such a hit that Homer has<br />
given us permission to take it to<br />
primary and secondary schools<br />
across the UK to give them a taste of<br />
<strong>STEAM</strong> <strong>Co</strong>. creativity and inspiration.<br />

parents make/fire a paper rocket<br />
