<strong>Prophet</strong><br />
<strong>Nuh</strong><br />
(peace <strong>be</strong> <strong>upon</strong> <strong>him</strong>)
This is the story of <strong>Prophet</strong> <strong>Nuh</strong> (peace <strong>be</strong> <strong>upon</strong> <strong>him</strong>).<br />
He (peace <strong>be</strong> <strong>upon</strong> <strong>him</strong>) lived long <strong>be</strong>fore our grandfather’s<br />
grandfather, and his grandfather and even his grandfather...
In a land far, far, far away,<br />
<strong>be</strong>yond the highest mountains,<br />
lived <strong>Prophet</strong> <strong>Nuh</strong> (peace <strong>be</strong> <strong>upon</strong> <strong>him</strong>).
<strong>Prophet</strong> <strong>Nuh</strong> (peace <strong>be</strong> <strong>upon</strong> <strong>him</strong>) loved Allah very much.<br />
He (peace <strong>be</strong> <strong>upon</strong> <strong>him</strong>) talked about the greatness of<br />
Allah Almighty to his family and friends.
<strong>Prophet</strong> <strong>Nuh</strong> (peace <strong>be</strong> <strong>upon</strong> <strong>him</strong>) told his people:<br />
“O people! I am a messenger of the Lord of<br />
the Universe, the One who created you.<br />
Why do you worship idols you have made from stone?<br />
What <strong>be</strong>nefit can they bring or harm can they cause?”
<strong>Prophet</strong> <strong>Nuh</strong> (peace <strong>be</strong> <strong>upon</strong> <strong>him</strong>) would say:<br />
“Allah loves you and you should <strong>be</strong>lieve in Him and worship Him alone.”
“Help and love each other,<br />
thank one and all,<br />
and trust only in Allah!” said he<br />
(peace <strong>be</strong> <strong>upon</strong> <strong>him</strong>).
Some of the people of <strong>Prophet</strong> <strong>Nuh</strong> (peace <strong>be</strong><br />
<strong>upon</strong> <strong>him</strong>) <strong>be</strong>lieved and trusted <strong>him</strong>.<br />
“We <strong>be</strong>lieve there is no god but Allah”, they said.
However, most of them did not <strong>be</strong>lieve<br />
<strong>Prophet</strong> <strong>Nuh</strong> (peace <strong>be</strong> <strong>upon</strong> <strong>him</strong>).<br />
No matter how hard he tried, they would<br />
not listen to <strong>him</strong>.
<strong>Prophet</strong> <strong>Nuh</strong> (peace <strong>be</strong> <strong>upon</strong> <strong>him</strong>)<br />
tried over and over again but could not<br />
get them to <strong>be</strong>lieve.<br />
He (peace <strong>be</strong> <strong>upon</strong> <strong>him</strong>) prayed to Allah<br />
<strong>be</strong>autifully and with all his heart.
Allah answered <strong>Prophet</strong> <strong>Nuh</strong>’s (peace <strong>be</strong><br />
<strong>upon</strong> <strong>him</strong>) prayers and said to <strong>him</strong>:<br />
“O <strong>Nuh</strong>! Do not <strong>be</strong> sad. We will save you<br />
and the <strong>be</strong>lievers. The wrongdoers will <strong>be</strong><br />
drowned. Build an enormous ark.”
They started work on building the ark straight away.<br />
For days and months...<br />
They worked,<br />
and worked.
At times they were very,<br />
very tired...<br />
but carried on building the ark.
At last!<br />
three storeys high!<br />
two!<br />
one!
Alhamdolillah! (All praise to Allah )<br />
The ark was built!<br />
Count the decks: One, two, three! Here is<br />
the enormous ark, you see!<br />
It was worth the effort,<br />
was it not?<br />
Now it was time to<br />
gather everyone on<br />
board the ark!
<strong>Prophet</strong> <strong>Nuh</strong> (peace <strong>be</strong> <strong>upon</strong> <strong>him</strong>) called out to the <strong>be</strong>lievers:<br />
“Animals shall come with us too, let us not leave any of them <strong>be</strong>hind!”<br />
They gathered on the ark in pairs<br />
sheep, rhinoceros, giraffes and others…
Even two<br />
elephants got on<br />
the ark!<br />
First the front feet, then<br />
the back ones.<br />
It was so hard to get the huge elephants on board!
Some of the animals came from far, far<br />
away. “Take us on the ark” said they.<br />
<strong>Prophet</strong> <strong>Nuh</strong> (peace <strong>be</strong> <strong>upon</strong> <strong>him</strong>) smiled<br />
and said, “Of course you may”.
When they had all boarded, a strong wind came and dark grey<br />
clouds covered the sky.<br />
It <strong>be</strong>gan to rain. It rained and rained and rained. The huge ark<br />
<strong>be</strong>gan to float!
The water rose so high, even higher than the mountain tops.<br />
<strong>Prophet</strong> <strong>Nuh</strong> (peace <strong>be</strong> <strong>upon</strong> <strong>him</strong>) kept praying to Allah, not scared<br />
even for a moment.
It rained for 40 days and<br />
40 nights.<br />
The ark went on and on and then<br />
came Allah’s Command:<br />
“O Earth! Swallow your water!<br />
O sky! Hold back your rain!”<br />
The Sun came out too...
The ark came to rest on an enormous mountain, Judi was its name.<br />
The people were so happy!<br />
They prayed and thanked Allah.<br />
They gathered all the food on the ark and cooked the first<br />
‘Ashura meal.
