Three Dyson vacuums<br />

stolen from business<br />

A business in the 2000 block<br />

of Skokie Valley Road reported<br />

the theft of 3 Dyson vacuums,<br />

valued at approximately $1900<br />

by an unknown subject, Friday,<br />

Sept. 21.<br />

September 17<br />

• A business owner in the 1600<br />

block of Old Deerfield Road<br />

reported that an unknown<br />

person(s) vandalized his business<br />

by destroying plants and<br />

spraying a fire extinguisher on<br />

the elevator carpet. The approximate<br />

damage caused by the unknown<br />

subject(s) is $200.<br />

• A patron of a business in the<br />

1500 block of Deerfield Road<br />

reported the theft of her car<br />

from the parking lot. The vehicle<br />

contained four handbags,<br />

a wallet, and approximately $40<br />

in cash.<br />

September 20<br />

• A complainant in the 2700<br />

block of Roslyn Lane reported<br />

the theft of items valued at<br />

more than $700 by unknown<br />

subject(s) during an estate sale<br />

on September 1, 2018.<br />

September 21<br />

• A complainant reported the<br />

theft of a mountain bike, valued<br />

at $200, from a facility in<br />

the 400 block of Vine Avenue.<br />

An unknown subject removed<br />

the unlocked bike from a bike<br />

rack.<br />

Highland Park Police arrest<br />

Boy Scouts executive<br />

The Highland Park Police Department<br />

was notified in May by<br />

the Northeast Illinois Council<br />

of the Boy Scouts of America,<br />

located at that time in Highland<br />

Park, of an internal investigation<br />

conducted by them, on one of<br />

their executives regarding fraud<br />

and other improper use of Boy<br />

Scouts of America funds and<br />

property totaling approximately<br />

$25,000.<br />

Highland Park Police Detectives<br />

conducted an investigation<br />

and presented the findings to the<br />

Lake County State’s Attorney’s<br />

Office which referred the case to<br />

a special prosecutor from the Illinois<br />

State’s Attorney’s Appellate<br />

Prosecutor’s Office, an independent<br />

Illinois Prosecuting Agency.<br />

The executive is identified as<br />

George D. Nelson, 51 years old<br />

of the 21000 Block of North<br />

Forest Rd. in Deer Park, IL. Mr.<br />

Nelson held the title of Scout Executive<br />

of the Northeast Illinois<br />

Council of the Boy Scouts of<br />

America.<br />

The incident was reviewed by<br />

the Lake County Grand Jury on<br />

August 29, 2018 and charges<br />

for disburing charitable funds<br />

without authority for personal<br />

benefit, which is a Class 2<br />

felony, as well as charges for<br />

wire fraud and forgery, both considered<br />

Class 3 felonies, were approved.<br />

Nelson was arrested the following<br />

day by Highland Park<br />

Police Detectives on the Lake<br />

County arrest warrant. Nelson<br />

was released on 10 percent of a<br />

$50,000 bond.<br />
