Pushing the boundaries of reality A virtual
reality game for the HTC Vive, an interactive video on YouTube, visual effects in movies,
the augmented reality features in Pokémon GO: these have more in common than you might
think. Firstly, they all push the boundaries of reality. Secondly, these products have all
been created by teams that combine creativity and technology and who subsequently
continue to expand the possibilities of technology. This is precisely the magical
combination that the CMGT programme offers you.
Interactive media or games? The choice is yours!
As the name indicates, CMGT will teach you every
thing you want to know about Creative Media and
Game Technologies. This is an extremely broad field of
study. Once you have completed the comprehensive
orientation phase, it is up to you to choose the area in
which you want to specialise. Do you have an extensive
interest in interactive media or are you passionate
about creating games? CMGT allows you to determine
your own study path.
The choice is yours!
Years 1 and 2
The initial set-up of CMGT is broad. We will focus on
the three roles that you will encounter in a large part
of the professional field:
• Artist (the talented illusionist who creates the
visual content)
• Experience Designer (the creative and technical
architect who develops the user experience)
• Engineer (the structured realist who is responsible
for the technical realisation)
In the first year, you will be able to experiment with
these roles and you will subsequently choose the role
that suits you best. Depending on your preference,
you will either move more in the direction of general
interactive media or you will specialise specifically in
games. During the first two years you will build a
portfolio, which will showcase your skills and will
prepare for your minor or internship.
Years 3 and 4
During the previous two years, you will have
discovered what your favourite area of interest is in
the creative sector. In your third and fourth years, you
will apply your knowledge and put your skills into
practice. In your third year, you will choose an
internship and minor, either in the Netherlands or
abroad. We have a large international network that
will be at your disposal. In the fourth year, you will
continue to further specialise yourself and prepare
for graduation. Upon graduation you receive the title
of Bachelor of Science.
Subjects
CMGT really is a team-based degree programme. You
will frequently collaborate on projects with your
fellow students. These projects are often practicebased.
You will then be given an assignment that
requires you to create interactive solutions or games
for a specific client or target group. The curriculum
will only be taught in English, which will fully prepare
you for a job in the international arena.

the potential to start your own business.
The short degree programme
The CMGT short degree programme takes either one or
two years. In order to gain a Bachelor of Science, you
will need to have already followed a similar degree
programme in your own country. It is important that the
content and level of your degree is largely the same as
that of CMGT. If you’re keen to discover whether you
could be eligible for the short degree programme, go to
www.saxion.edu, where you will find more information
about the entry requirements and the content of the
short degree programme.
Requirements
First of all, you will need to meet the general entry
requirements. Beyond this, there are additional
requirements that apply to all students who wish to
enrol in CMGT. This will involve an entrance assessment:
You need to submit an interactive portfolio (website,
weblog, Flickr album or something similar) to prove
your previously acquired technical skills and the ability
to design. By means of an interview (via Skype) it will be
established if your communicative skills are sufficient
for admission to the course. If possible, you can do the
intake assessment at Saxion. The result is final and
binding.
