WELCOME TO THE<br />
NEWSLETTER!<br />
Welcome to the Subvert collective Newsletter. After 3 months of<br />
work, between rebranding an organisation, we decided to start a<br />
Newsletter that we Publish each Month. The Newsletter will talk<br />
about the most important topics of the month, the most interesting<br />
news and reports and all the work we did in that month. This month<br />
was the month of interviews where we talked to a lot of people on the<br />
internet about topics like "left unity" or "the "leftist community on<br />
social media". We interviewed people on Instagram, from people with<br />
10.000 followers to people with 300. We also started our rebranding<br />
beginning of September and changed our name from "Union of leftist<br />
democratic activists" to "Subvert".<br />
Also, our Internal communication and organisation changed and is<br />
now on a way higher level than it used to be. We now have different<br />
Crewmembers for Internal Organisation, Media representation, Blog<br />
Administration, Social media management and much more.<br />
Because this is our first Newsletter and also the first<br />
one our designer ever made, let us know your opinions<br />

REBRANDING<br />
Why we chnaged our Logo and name and what meaning it has<br />
First, our two founders of the<br />
Netherlands formed the "Union of<br />
leftist democratic activists" in 2017. We<br />
started first on Instagram as a political<br />
account with the goal to build up a<br />
community that supports left unity. We<br />
were surprised how many people we<br />
gathered in one chatroom on WhatsApp,<br />
we had over 100 members. We also<br />
found all of our current crew members<br />
this way, our designer, blogger and all<br />
the social media admins. In November<br />
2017 we wanted to go more serious and<br />
after our designer joined us we made<br />
our first professional rebranding, with<br />
our first logo and design concept. We<br />
started making more serious posts on<br />
social media and we got also active on<br />
Facebook. Later on, we also got our first<br />
webpage and we were very happy with<br />
all of it. After a few cleanouts of inactive<br />
members, we decided in September<br />
2018 to make the next big step. New<br />
Design, new identity, new motivation<br />
and more professionality. We started<br />
"Subvert". The name comes from "To<br />
Subvert" what means "to overwrought"<br />
or "to rebuild", and we did exactly that.<br />
We rebuild our whole collective. Only the<br />
members remained the same. We started<br />
a new Webpage, a new design and logo.<br />
But most Important, new Ideas.<br />
After we rebuild the collective and<br />
our rebranding was done we started<br />
with more serious posts and more<br />
professional work, we interviewed<br />
people on Instagram, from people with<br />
10.000 followers to people with 500<br />
and less. We started this newsletter<br />
and connected with local leftist groups<br />
around the world. We also split up the<br />
work collectively so everyone had to do<br />
the same amount of work and the work<br />
they were good at in. We have grown<br />
a lot since the rebranding, not only in<br />
members but also in motivation because<br />
we have the feeling and the proof that<br />
what we do can change something,<br />
educate and help others. Our future<br />
goals are that we can provide education,<br />
direct actions and support all around the<br />
world. And we will work to archive that<br />
goal even if it takes us years and a lot of<br />
money to get there.<br />

Left unity is an important concept, but it doesn’t have a set definition. I think dissolving all of our differences is the wrong move,<br />
let alone impossible. My view on it is that we should all retain our differences, but work together for common goals now, at least<br />
in the short term. I’m an anarchist, but if Maoism works better somewhere than anarchism, I’d support Maoism over anarchism<br />
there. Each leftist ideology suits different areas better, and no individual one can be applied everywhere in the short term. Right<br />
now, US imperialism is what we have to target, and every ‘battle’ has a better side to support. We should take the approach<br />
where we retain our differences, but all cooperate to push the movement further together. At the moment, any leftism is better<br />
than the current order. A diversity of methods is most effective, and a large multitude of varying leftist ideologies is just more<br />
tools, more methods, more routes, to reach Communism. Each route better for a different...<br />

I work in the Democratic Socialist of America as a labour committee organiser and I’ve been working Anakbayan a Maoist Youth<br />
org, I’ve been working in the push for Cooperatives and worker-owned business in my City of Long Beach and helping the port<br />
workers in hand with my Senior Year of High School. As well as finding my own The Filipino Boondock Society, an Anarchist/Libertarian<br />
Student and Youth Organisation for Filipinos/Americans to help my homeland with donations and workshops to spread<br />
awareness. I’ve been doing this for a long while in America and it’s been a hard long struggle indeed.<br />
