Profound - when describing a
man with the heart of a lion,
brave and courageous!
Affectionately known to the
KZN listeners as one of the three
presenters on the ECR breakfast
show, is the gentle giant Sky “the
T is silent” Tshabalala.
GETTING PERSONAL
Sky is one of three siblings privileged to have TWO moms and a dad he holds in high
regard. Sky hails from Vryheid - a small town known for its coal mining, north of Kwazulu
Natal. He described his childhood as a blessed and fortunate one – thanks to his
parents for the choices and privileges he and his siblings had been given.
“RADIO WAS NEVER A PART OF THE PLAN”
Matriculating from Kloof High Tshabalala saw
himself pursuing a career as a professional
rugby player. Sport was and still is on his top
three in “the plan”. After having played for the
Lions Academy in Johannesburg and exploring
Australia for a while, Sky decided to head
back home to complete his studies in Sports
Management. Being an avid sportsman he
regularly attended the games at our local
stadiums where he one day was introduced
to his, now, colleague Darren Maule. After a
few meet ups in the same scenario Darren
approached Sky to try out radio. Sceptical
but curious Sky gave this a shot.
“THE RADIO BUG KINDA BIT”
Fast forward - today there is no regret with the choices he had made. He is now on
one of the most listened to slots at 6 – 9am on the ECR Breakfast show. Sky describes
working at the studio with much enthusiasm and passion however sport still remains
the centre of his focus. Tshabala was nominated as the 2017 Best Radio Sport
