hour laborers will receive their penny. <strong>The</strong>se will see the battle coming and<br />

will give the trumpet a certain sound. When the crisis is upon us, when the<br />

season of calamity shall come, they will come to the front, gird themselves<br />

with the whole armor of God, and exalt His law, adhere to the faith of Jesus,<br />

and maintain the cause of religious liberty which Reformers defended with<br />

toil and for which they sacrificed their lives. [p. 378]<br />

<strong>The</strong> soul-saving message, the third angel’s message, is the message to be<br />

given to the world. <strong>The</strong> commandments of God and the faith of Jesus are<br />

both important, immensely important, and must be given with equal force<br />

and power. <strong>The</strong> first part of the message has been dwelt upon mostly, the last<br />

part casually. <strong>The</strong> faith of Jesus is not comprehended. We must talk it, we<br />

must live it, we must pray it, and educate the people to bring this part of the<br />

message into their home life. "Let this mind be in you, which was also in<br />

Christ Jesus." (Phil. 2:5) [p. 430]<br />

We will not be able to meet the trials of this time without God. We are<br />

not to have the courage and fortitude of martyrs of old until brought into the<br />

position they were in. <strong>The</strong> Lord proportions His grace to meet every<br />

emergency. We are to receive daily supplies of grace for each daily<br />

emergency. Thus we grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus<br />

Christ, and if persecution comes upon us, if we must be enclosed in prison<br />

walls for the faith of Jesus and the keeping of God’s holy law, "As thy days,<br />

so shall thy strength be." Should there be a return of persecution there would<br />

be grace given to arouse every energy of the soul to show a true heroism. But<br />

there is a large amount of nominal Christianity which has not its origin in<br />

God, the Source of all power and might. God gives us not power to make us<br />

independent and self-sufficient. We must ever make God our only<br />
