KAZAKH ORCHESTRA UK DEBUT<br />

AT CADOGAN HALL<br />

The Kazakh Philharmonic Chamber<br />

Orchestra will be the first orchestra from<br />

Kazakhstan to perform in the UK. They<br />

will appear at Cadogan Hall (19.30) on<br />

26 <strong>Oct</strong>ober. The event has been<br />

organised to celebrate 25 years of<br />

diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan<br />

and the UK. The three concert visit,<br />

taking the orchestra to London,<br />

Manchester and Dublin, launches a new<br />

project entitled Modern Kazakh Culture<br />

in a Global World.<br />

The orchestra will be joined by<br />

Canadian violinist Lara St John and<br />

Kazakh clarinettist Zholaman Bekturgan,<br />

performing under the baton of be Erbolat<br />

Kazakh Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra.<br />

Akhmedyarov. The Kazakh Philharmonic<br />

Chamber Orchestra was founded in 1935<br />

in Almaty, when Kazakhstan was still<br />

part of the Soviet Union. Almaty is the<br />

former capital of Kazakhstan and the<br />

largest city in the country, recognised as<br />

its cultural centre.<br />

The Orchestra will perform an exciting<br />

programme which includes two short<br />

works by 19 century Kazakh<br />

traditional/folk composers, giving the<br />

pieces their UK premieres. The<br />

programme will close with Vivaldi’s Four<br />

Seasons. The soloist in the Four<br />

Seasons is the Canadian-born violinist<br />

Lara St. John who has been described<br />

as ‘something of a phenomenon’ by The<br />

Strad and a ‘high-powered soloist’ by the<br />

New York Times.<br />
