Kate Shapland 

We meet Legology founder Kate Shapland to discuss work, life and her 

tips on getting the perfect pins 

Why did you set up legology? 

I developed Legology because I’m on 

a personal crusade to give us happier, 

healthier legs. I felt consumers were being 

shortchanged because the only offerings 

were cellulite creams that seemed to be a 

bit of an afterthought. I wanted to develop 

a dependable brand that worked really well 

and felt wonderful too. 

What were you doing before legology? 

Until I developed Legology, and in fact for 

quite a while after I launched the brand, I 

worked as a beauty writer. I had a very 

good overview of the market and what was

missing from it. My last job in journalism was 

as beauty editor of the Telegraph Magazine, 

and this gave me the best insight of all 

because I felt very in tune with the reader 

and understood what she wanted to find on 

the beauty pages and counters. 

What is the secret to launching your own 

beauty brand? 

Not to overthink anything to begin with and 

not to compromise. Just be 100% in love 

with what you are developing and crack on 

with it. The digital age has, in many ways, 

made it easier to launch a beauty brand. But 

it isn’t the whole solution. You still need

esources and cash flow is grim - the digital 

revolution hasn’t done away with any of 

those traditional stumbling blocks. 

Which other women in business inspire you? 

I’m inspired by women who are positive, 

have lots of interests, are courageous and 

have great individual style, whether they’re 

in business or not. 

Where is home? 

I live in west London, near the Thames. 

What is your favourite way to relax? 

Walking and gardening. They’re both great 

at clearing your head and it’s good to get 

your fingernails dirty. 

What is your morning beauty routine? 

Breakfast for my scottie dogs and coffee in 

bed for me. Shower, application of Legology 

Air-Lite, my hero deep drainage cream and 

a walk along the river. When I get home I’ll 

have a bowl of natural yoghurt with oat bran 

in it and crack on with the day. Sometimes, 

however, I do none of this and stay in bed 

working and then get up and have a French 

breakfast. It’s all about balance! 

What would be your one tip for women who 

are self-conscious of their legs? 

Try body brushing every day for a week and 

see how much better it makes you feel about 

your legs. This is an incredibly simple task, 

requiring minimal input for maximum results 

- pinkness and tone that makes legs look 

100% better instantly. All you need to do 

is brush in quick flicks all over your body - it 

shouldn’t take more than a minute, and you 

can brush your skin when it’s dry, wet (in the 

shower) or damp (after a shower) - it really 

doesn’t matter as long as you do it.
