Volunteer for a Day, Make a Difference for a Lifetime

The American Society Angel Party started
in 2000 with a handful of volunteers,
many of whom did double or triple duty,
arriving early in the morning and leaving only
after every bit of trash had been cleaned up.
A few of us still do that (because we’re wired
that way), but we’re happily able to count on
a huge, loyal group of volunteers who show
up year after year and who bring along new
people to experience the fun of dedicating a
few hours to kids who have very little.
This year the Angel Party is at Graded School in
Morumbi on Saturday, December 8 th . The party
starts as the children arrive at 11:30am and
ends when the last one leaves around 5pm.
Volunteers usually work one of two shifts and a
small group is assigned to stay the whole day.
If you’d like to volunteer for the Angel Party
this year, it’s easy. Send an email to our
volunteer coordinator, Ivete Rodrigues, at ivete.
rodrigues@terra.com.br. She’ll send you a link
to a form and make sure you’re all set for one of
the two shifts and try to slot you into the kind
of job you’d most like – for example, serving
food, helping with sports, playing games,
or being Santa’s helper. We need volunteers
to do anything and everything. There are no
guarantees that things will run smoothly on
the day, but we can guarantee that you’ll have
a fulfilling, fun day and make a true difference
in the life of a child. §
I started volunteering at the Angel Party
to simply help a charity, but I found out it's so
much more! The energy of creating a special
day for these children gives us the certainty
that there are many good people in the world.
We’re sure that if each one does a little, this
planet would be a happier place. It’s exciting
to watch a child trying a sandwich she has
never eaten before or playing a game she’s
never played before and winning a prize. And
her joy at receiving her only gift of the year is
amazing. Never in six years have I left the
party without teary eyes and a full heart. I
receive much more than I give, for sure!

November Volunteer of the Month
With a great can-do spirit, Laura has our
traditional American holidays covered! The
gift of her time and enthusiasm to our Easter
Egg Hunt & Family Day at the new location
of the São Paulo Yacht Club was integral to
its huge success. With the same gusto and
at the same new venue, she's thrown herself
into helping make the Halloween Party live
up to the AmSoc standards of family fun. A
huge thanks to you, Laura, in volunteering
your time and creativity!
