Local group donates to Operation Care Package
Submitted by 100+ Women
Who Care of Will County
During the Sept. 11 meeting
of 100+ Women Who
Care of Will County, Operation
Care Package was nominated
along with two other
local charities.
After hearing members
present on the charities
and voting, Operation Care
Package won the majority
vote. With 40 women
in the group each making a
$100 donation, Operation
Care Package was awarded
$4,000.
Operation Care Package
was presented the checks
on Oct. 10. Operation Care
Package is dedicated to the
mission that no hero serving
the nation should be
forgotten. Their goal is to
support Soldiers, Marines,
Sailors and Airmen through
care packages and letters of
encouragement. The charity
mails care packages to
deployed members of the
U.S. armed forces who
would normally not receive
mail. Volunteers pack the
supplies into flat-rate boxes
each week and ship them all
over the world. Many go to
places such as Afghanistan,
Kosovo, Guam and even
ships at sea.
Election Note
In addition to Democratic incumbent Daniel W. Lipinski
and Republican challenger Arthur Jones, three individuals
made the list of eligible write-in candidates for the U.S.
Congressional District 3 race in Illinois, according to Cook,
Will and DuPage County Clerk’s websites. They are Justin
Hanson, of La Grange; Richard Mayers, of Chicago; and
Kenneth Yerkes, of Oak Lawn. If write-in candidates elect
to respond, their questionnaires are to be featured at
“How better to honor our
military during this time
of year then by assisting
in mailing out packages to
our troops, especially over
the holidays when they are
missing their families? This
is such a great local charity
that makes our service men
and women feel appreciated
and lets them know that
they are not forgotten. With
our contribution helping to
defray the postage costs,
this will enable OCP to send
out so many more packages
of treats and essentials to
our local troops stationed
all over the world.”
100+ Women Who Care
of Will County’s next meeting
is from 6-7 p.m. Nov.
13 at Prairie Bluff Golf
Course. All are invited.
