The biblical mandate about gleaning comes from the Hebrew scriptures in Deuteronomy 24:19: "When you reap your harvest in your field and forget a sheaf in the field, you shall not go back to get it; it shall be left for the alien, the orphan, and the widow, so that the LORD your God may bless you in all your undertakings." On Saturday, October 20, adults, youth and children helped glean for apples at Marker-Miller Orchards. This was the second time our church has participated in this event and my first time as Associate Pastor. It was hosted by the Society of St. Andrew, whose mission is to envision a world in which physical and spiritual hunger is met through God’s grace and abundance in Jesus Christ. The mission event was a collaboration between our Youth/Children ministries and Women on Mission. It was inspiring to see people from First Baptist Church of all ages serve together. In harvesting the leftover Winesap apples on the cool October morning I was reminded that God's abundance is far more than we can even fathom. As we approach the busy-ness of this capital campaign season and the American holiday of Thanksgiving it is good to be reminded of God's provision. God provides more than enough and invites us to participate in his abundance. How will you give from the overflow God's gifts to you? How will you show your gratitude for the many gifts God has given you? God invites us each to participate. Together we can do more than anyone thinks is possible. Jesus lived fully into God's abundance and was able to understand fully that with God all things are possible. May it be so for us too! In Christ, Pastor Kyle
The TIE that binds the church & home together Volume 79, Issue 11 “Grace Notes” by Lori “O come, let us sing unto the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.” Psalms 95:1 Page 3 Our church is very blessed to have a choir leading music in the choir loft 12 months a year. The Chancel Choir takes the summer months off and the Singin’ Seniors lead worship in July and August. We would welcome new members to each choir! I am so thankful to all of our choir members who give of their time and talents on a weekly basis. Here are some health benefits of singing to ponder. Singing: Boosts our immune system Lowers blood pressure Improves breathing Reduces stress levels and improves mood Forges happy and meaningful memories Provides comfort Motivates and empowers us Inspires others! FBC Kids There are so many wonderful events that will be taking place as we celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas! In November: There will be a Talk & Play event on Saturday, November 10th at 10 am. We will meet at Blandy Farm. This an opportunity for children to play together and parents to chat. On the 14th our 3rd-5th graders will join the youth in volunteering at Bright futures! We will also begin to prepare for the annual Christmas program and participate in the downtown Christmas parade! In December: We will offer a Parents Night out on December 1st, 6-8 pm. Please consider volunteering for this event as it gives parents an opportunity to shop for Christmas! We will have our program dress rehearsal and Christmas lunch on December 2nd. The Christmas program will take place on December 5th. As always childcare will be provided during the White Christmas and 5 pm Christmas Eve services.
