Police Reports
Driver allegedly ran down light pole, flagpole
and fire hydrant after leaving the roadway
David A. Kost, 33, of
15630 Park Station Blvd. in
Orland Park, was charged
Oct. 6 with DUI-drugs or
combination of drugs, improper
lane use and failure
to reduce speed to avoid an
accident after he allegedly
hit a curb; drove over the
grass of a parkway; hit a
light pole, knocking it into
159th Street; exited the grass
into a shopping plaza; drove
over another curb and more
grass; hit a communications/
electric box; hit a flagpole,
knocking it down; and hit a
fire hydrant before the car
spun to face eastbound and
came to a rest in front of the
side door to Culver’s, 9130
W. 159th St.
He was traveling westbound
on 159th Street in a
2008 Chevrolet Avalanche
when the incident occurred,
police said. Following the
crash, Kost’s voice was raspy
and his speech slow, according
to the report. He reportedly
participated in field
sobriety tests, after which
he was arrested. He showed
signs consistent with being
under the influence of a pain
reliever, police said. Kost allegedly
refused to provide a
blood and urine sample.
Oct. 10
• Robert W. Laschober, 32,
of 7908 164th Place in Tinley
Park, was charged with
retail theft after he allegedly
tried to take energy drinks,
soda and toilet paper valued
at a total of $130.22 from
a grocery store in the 9500
block of 142nd Street. He
reportedly put everything in
a shopping cart and tried to
leave the store.
Oct. 6
Police also found a bag in
the backseat of the vehicle
containing a copper scouring
pad, a ballpoint pen and a
bag containing a white powder
residue, according to the
report.
• Esther B. Harris, 29, of
5800 Justine St. in Chicago,
and Karena ML Payne, 30,
of 6204 Seeley St. in Chicago,
each were charged
with retail theft after they
allegedly tried to take a total
of 13 items valued at a total
of $524 from a department
store at Orland Square. They
both reportedly selected
items, placed them in a bag
and shopping cart, and tried
to leave the store without
paying for the items.
They fled in a vehicle that
was stopped at 143rd Place
and 87th Avenue, and identified,
police said. Police
found a bag inside of an
infant’s diaper bag containing
a green, leafy substance,
which field tested positive
for cannabis weighing 2
grams. Harris additionally
was issued a municipal violation
for possession of cannabis.
Oct. 4
theft after she allegedly
tried to take six items valued
at $88.94 from a store on Orland
Square Drive. She reportedly
took the items into
a fitting room, concealed
them in a purse and tried to
theft after she allegedly
tried to take 16 items valued
store in the 15800 block of
94th Avenue. She reportedly
concealed the merchandise
in a plastic bin in a shopping
cart, only scanned certain
items in the self-checkout
lane and left without paying
for the rest.
A 30-year-old from Chicago
was issued a municipal
violation for retail theft
for accompanying her during
the theft and acting as
a lookout, according to the
report. Coleman had a prior
history of criminal charges,
while the companion did
not, police explained.
with DUI, DUI BAC over
in the 17000 block of Wolf
red and glassy eyes, police
was a half-empty bottle of
whiskey in the driver’s door,
according to the report. The
truck reportedly had frontend
damage, while the van
had rear-end damage.
The van was stopped on
