Village seeks help for historic Christmas Fest photo
Staff Report
Back in the 1930s, civicminded
Mokenians — ever
looking to expand their view
— climbed an old water tower
and snapped some bird’s
eye photos of the town.
It happened again in 1980,
when Mokena residents
filled Front Street for another
aerial perspective on the
community.
Almost thirty years later
—in 2008 — then-Mayor
Joe Werner brought in an 80-
foot aerial truck for a similar
shoot. Most would agree
that event generated a great
deal of buzz. It was quite the
spectacle.
But times do change.
A full decade has passed,
Mokena’s population is now
more than 20,000, and technology
has advanced to the
point where it’s no longer
The last time the Village of Mokena snapped a Village photo
was 2008. On Nov. 17 it is scheduled to do it again. The
Village is asking residents to come out to the Metra parking
lot for a group photo. Eric Karllson
necessary to bring in a large
piece of heavy equipment
to capture that perfect aerial
image.
This is, after all, 2018.
Mokena residents are being
encouraged to flood the
Front Street Metra parking
lot on Nov. 17 for a new
photo as part of this year’s
Christmas Fest festivities.
