PROJECT SYMPOSIUM 2012 

Cal Poly Pomona’s Engineering Project Symposium showcases the results of individual and teambased 

efforts to solve multidisciplinary technical challenges. For our twelfth annual Symposium, more 

than 446 undergraduate and graduate students will present 116 projects and exhibits in 20 simultaneous 

sessions. 

Consistent with the Cal Poly Pomona “Learn by Doing” philosophy, faculty-mentored projects have 

been undertaken by students and student teams from our engineering departments: Aerospace, 

Chemical & Materials, Civil, Electrical & Computer, Industrial & Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, 

and Engineering Technology. Some projects are interdisciplinary, requiring participation by 

students across the college and the university. Many projects are sponsored and guided by industry. 

Projects require planning and most often use a research, prototype, test and document strategy. The 

pedagogical model is greatly enhanced by an opportunity to summarize a project in a public forum.
