Answers by Katie Chacon
Describe your business. Did you find it, or did it find you?
We opened our salon space five years ago, taking a huge leap of
faith on a blank canvas, making it our own, and adding a balcony
overlooking Sutter Street. We’ve continued building our salon culture
and community ever since.
How are you involved with both the community and your
customer?
We love getting involved with any and all of the Historic Folsom events—
from hosting carolers for the Christmas tree lighting to the Sutter Street
Sip and Stroll. Our clients love that our location brings amazing activities
and events that they’re able to participate in firsthand.
Why is your staff the best in the business?
Our staff is, hands down, the best in the biz. These women are talented,
hardworking, and kind, with a little sassy kick to boot.
Where do you go when the going gets tough?
I have an amazing group of friends who are there through thick and
thin. Also, kayaking on the river is music to my soul.
What’s your hidden talent?
Cooking and creating yummy new recipes.
What’s your biggest job perk?
Working with fun, inspiring people.
What’s your favorite place to eat out locally?
Marly and Moo.
Where do you and your family go locally to have fun?
We’re so fortunate to live near the Johnny Cash Trail and head out there
as often as we can.
What’s your favorite local business other than your own?
True North Cycle.
And finally, customer service is…?
Everything. Clients mean the world to us, and we make every effort to
provide them with the best of the best.
Describe your business. Did you find it, or did it find you?
JJ Music offers private lessons in guitar, ukulele, piano and more
at many different schools—College of Marin, Gateway Seminary,
Summit Christian School, Marin Horizon School, and Marin Christian
Academy—and locally. I started the business because I was grateful
for my early education in music. Growing up, I experienced a lot
of frustrations playing sports; as a result, I turned to music, which
gave me a new passion for life. I now make a full-time living doing it
and believe all children should have the opportunity to learn music.
Who is your role model in business or in life, and why?
My father. He’s a musician and has a wealth of knowledge in business.
Where do you go when the going gets tough?
I turn to prayer and to the Bible. I seek God when the going gets
tough…and go to the gym!
What’s your hidden talent?
I love skiing.
What’s your biggest job perk?
Doing what I love—teaching and playing music.
What’s your favorite place to eat out locally?
Hisui Sushi.
Where do you and your family go locally to have fun?
California Family Fitness and the park.
What’s your favorite local event that you go to?
Open mic on Wednesday nights at Gaslight Co. on Sutter Street.
What’s your favorite local business other than your own?
I love BusyKidz.
If you could be in any other profession, what would it be?
A college professor at a musical institute.
And finally, customer service is…?
The most important thing for a business. I strive to have all of our
customers wanting to leave us a five-star rating.
DO YOU KNOW THAT OUR EDITORIAL IS NOT PAID FOR, NOR CAN IT BE PURCHASED?
In fact, our Introducing and Eat & Drink section reviews are not paid advertisements. If you’d like your business profiled, please email Megan Wiskus at megan@stylemg.com. Once we
determine when your business will be featured, we will contact you to schedule a time to come out and take a photograph. Thank you!
