6 | December 6, 2018 | The wilmette beacon news wilmettebeacon.com Police Reports Driver in three-car Wilmette crash arrested for suspended license Jennifer Baughman, 46, of Kenosha, Wis., was arrested at 6:21 p.m. Nov. 29 following a three-car accident on Skokie Boulevard at Wilmette Avenue. It was found that Baughman, one of the drivers in the accident, had a suspended Wisconsin driver’s license. She was arrested, transported to the police department, issued a citation, and released on an I-Bond. Wilmette Nov. 30 • A resident in the 200 block of Valley View Drive reported she heard someone near her front door at 6 p.m. Nov. 29 tampering with a delivered package. The victim observed an unknown male and female walking northbound and the contents of her package to be missing (valued at $13.95). Nov. 28 • A resident told police on Nov. 27 that she received numerous phone calls throughout the day on Nov. 25 about her iCloud account being hacked. She answered one call and spoke with the “Apple representative” who convinced her to allow him full access to her computer, provide him scans of her identification and purchase and send him a $100 gift card from Amazon, $600 Coin Base Gateway Security Account and $4,000 in Google Play Cards. Nov. 27 • Jason Whitten, 36, of Chicago, was taken into custody following a traffic stop at 12:33 p.m. Nov. 26 for his vehicle displaying an expired registration at the intersection of Lake Avenue and Hibbard Road. He was cited for driving on a suspended license, operating a vehicle with expired registration, no proof of insurance and improper use of registration (sticker from another vehicle). • A school custodian at Central School, 910 Central Ave. reported on Nov. 16 an unknown offender(s) damaged the outdoor library in the garden area. The damage occurred between 9 a.m. and noon that day. Nov. 26 • A resident in the 2900 block of Lake Avenue reported that between 3:11- 3:48 p.m. Nov. 25 he was asleep on the second floor of his home when he was awakened by his alarm sounding. He went to the first floor of his home and observed an unknown subject running from the living room out the front door to a vehicle parked in the driveway. The vehicle was last observed fleeing westbound on Lake Avenue nothing was fond to be missing at the time of the report. The front door had been opened by brute force. Kenilworth • There were no reports for the week of Nov. 23-30. Police release Thanksgiving law enforcement numbers Submitted by Wilmette Police Department The Wilmette Police Department conducted additional traffic enforcement Nov. 16–26, reminding motorists to buckle up and not drive impaired, day or night, as part of the nationwide Click It or Ticket/ Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over enforcement effort. The Wilmette Police Department joined other state and local law enforcement agencies across Illinois to reduce highway deaths by issuing citations to unbuckled motorists and arresting impaired drivers. During the 10-day mobilization, police ssued: • 1 seat belt citation • 2 uninsured motorists • 19 speeding citations • 5 electronic communication device usage citations • 3 other citations for various offense The campaign may be over, but that isn’t an excuse to stop buckling up. Not wearing your seat belt is a primary offense, meaning law enforcement can stop you and issue a citation for that alone. All vehicle occupants, regardless of seating position, are required to wear a properly adjusted seat belt. “Our officers are yearround. If you or your passengers are caught not wearing a seat belt, you will be cited for violation,” Sgt. David Sweet said. “If you drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs, you will be arrested.” The Click It or Ticket/ Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over enforcement effort is funded with federal highway safety funds administered by the IDOT. holiday From Page 4 Soon, just like a rock star coming to town, Santa made his appearance off of the firetruck, escorted by several fireman. Kids cheered and even Yusim ran to give the jolly man in red a big, grateful hug. As Santa got settled, Village President Bob Bielinski took the podium, with his daughter, Maggie, by his side. “Thank you to everyone who braved this weather to celebrate our Village and see Santa. A night like this, gives us all that small town feeling, while recognizing how Wilmette is growing in great ways. There is no doubt that there is a brand, new word in Wilmette, and that is ‘Wilmettonomics,’ reminding us all to support our local business owners by shopping local this holiday season,” Bielinski said. Before families filed back into the building to see Santa, Paul Hahn, of the Optimist Club, thanked Fire Chief Ben Wozney for organizing the ride for Santa and for suggesting that any child who brought a toy for the Optimist’s Toys for Tots drive, be entered into a raffle to win a ride to school on a firetruck. The winner, McKenzie kindergarten student Fin Laughton was announced. “I’m so excited to meet the firefighters and sit in the silly seats on the truck,” Laughton told his mom, while agreeing to give big sister, Olivia, a first-grade McKenzie student, a lift to school too.
