MAYOR’S CHRISTMAS APPEAL<br />
For many, Christmas is a wonderful time of year; the season<br />
of giving where we enjoy time spent with our family and<br />
loved ones, sharing a meal and exchanging gifts.<br />
But Christmas can also be an incredibly difficult time. For<br />
some in our community there are the financial pressures that<br />
come with the season; for others, it can simply be a very<br />
lonely time of year.<br />

Community Christmas Celebration Events via its Community<br />
Funding Program:<br />

By supporting the City of Wanneroo Mayor’s Christmas Appeal<br />
you can help to bring a smile to the faces of those in our<br />
community who are doing it tough during the festive season.<br />
The City calls on the local community to donate items to the<br />
appeal, with a wide range of food items, toys for all ages<br />
and money coming in from businesses, community groups<br />
and schools, as well as collection points at the Civic Centre<br />
and City libraries.<br />
Red Christmas Appeal bins are ready to be filled with your<br />
donations at locations across the City until Friday<br />
23 <strong>November</strong>.<br />

WASTE LESS THIS CHRISTMAS<br />
REDUCE<br />
While Christmas and New Year celebrations bring tremendous<br />
joy, households also produce more waste than usual during<br />
the festive season, with an abundance of wrapping paper,<br />
cardboard and empty bottles.<br />
The City of Wanneroo is encouraging residents to cut down<br />
on their waste with these simple ideas:<br />
• Upgrading or replacing old technology? Don’t throw it<br />
in the bin! The City of Wanneroo is holding a collection<br />
weekend on 2-3 <strong>February</strong> <strong>2019</strong> for e-waste, bulk<br />
polystyrene, cardboard and clothing.<br />
• Buy quality decorations and artificial trees that can be<br />
used for years to come.<br />
• Avoid single use plastics such as straws, cups, plates and<br />
cutlery and use paper, wood or bamboo options instead.<br />
• Plan Christmas meals to avoid food waste and eat<br />
leftovers on Boxing Day.<br />
• Recycle all glass, even broken!<br />
• Use rechargeable batteries, which save you money and<br />
help the environment. Drop off your used batteries to one<br />
of the many battery bins around the City.<br />
Please note, there will be no bin collection services on<br />
Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.<br />

WANNEROO CHRISTMAS LUNCH<br />
The City of Wanneroo is once again sponsoring the<br />
Wanneroo Christmas Lunch. The event brings together<br />
community members and organisations from across the City<br />
who generously donate their time and resources to provide<br />
a hot meal, carols and a Christmas message to people who<br />
are in need of company on Christmas Day.<br />
