HOW TO HONOR DECEASED LOVED ONE AT
YOUR WEDDING Ceremony
When all the family members get together, when the love of your life is standing beside
you, and still you feel a little void, you probably are missing someone very close. On the
joyous occasion of wedding, we often miss the deceased members of our family or
friends. How happy would they be to be a part of all this, the mere thought is enough to
make eyes all watery. While mentioning their names in Indian wedding cards, you can
include some other creative ways to memorialize them on the most special day of your
life. This way they can be a part of your wedding and you can remember them happily.
Here are a few ideas in which you can honor deceased loved one at your wedding:
1. A small nook just for them
Weddings are the joyous occasions. It’s quite obvious you tend to miss deceased
members of your family. How do you wish them to be part of this event of your life? It
can be anyone, your grandmother your grandfather or any other member from your
family. You can just place their pictures across the table and embellish it in the same

manner they like it. For example, you can add their favorite flowers or scented candles
or their favorite fragrance. Even a short message for them along with the photo is a big
token of respect. They are there watching you from heaven and feeling all happy to see
their “little ones” moving on to next beautiful phase of life.
2. You can include “theirs” as your “something borrowed”
The current trends are to give the additional flair to vintage. How cool it is that you can
actually have something beautiful and vintage that too from someone from your family.
For instance, the brides can wear something; it can be the dupatta for the wedding
Lehenga or their wedding dress. Indian grooms can also include something in their
attire as well it can be something as basic as cufflinks of their great-grandfather. But
including something that belongs to them makes you feel their presence on the most
beautiful day of your life.
3. Let them be the part of your “wedding ceremony”
Another way of making them a part of your special day is to place their photos in chairs
allocated to different guests. How do you wish your grandmother to be a part of your
Mehendi ceremony, sitting by your side, singing her hymns? Why not place a picture of

hers next to you? You can do the same at your “Phera ceremony” where you can place
her picture on one chair in the mandap. That way they can be the part of all the
functions of your wedding ceremony.
How beautiful it felt to fly some balloon in the air. Why not use this as a token of respect
and gratitude for deceased family members? You can get the balloons with their names
inscribed on it. You can add a little message too and let it fly high up in the sky. This
way you can send all your love up to them. You can ask other guests too to do the
same. Let them showered up with love up there.
4. A dance on their favorite song
This is smoothing very simple and very thoughtful at the same time. You can dance on
their favorite song and dedicate the same to them. You can make a little announcement
or can even make a speech to mark this moment. Instead of sharing everything that
makes everyone cry, you can remember them happily.
Indian wedding brides look exceptional with all those heavy jewelry. “Kaliras” form the
essential part of the bride’s jewels. And hence many brides are carrying little pictures of
their deceased family member in the Kaliras. How creative yet beautiful way to include
them on the most special day of your life. Worried that brides have got so many options
yet grooms are left with very limited options. No worries, you can include their picture
too inside the jacket of the suit you are wearing for your “d-day”.

Nothing connotes love like food. And we all know how much we love the wedding food.
So why not include some of the favorites of your deceased family members in the main
menu. You can even name these meals after their names. And if you want to keep it
minimal, then you can keep a little note on the board beside the stall.
Blooms from the archaic times are symbolic to love and respect. So why not pay them a
tribute with these blooms. You can include their favorite flowers to decorate the
mandap. You can even include their loved flowers in your “Jaimala” as well. You can

use them in the table centerpieces as well. Let the whole wedding venue blossom with
Remember how they guide you through the darkest hours of your life. They were the
light you always find even when there is no ray of hope. Let them enlighten your entire
ceremony too. You can keep a rustic lantern as a centerpiece or even as decor with
little notes.
Make sure they can be a part of all your ceremonial function and their memory is not
tarnished on the most special event of your life. Also consider the emotion of your other
family members as well. The celebration of love and togetherness always felt
incomplete without their presence. But with these ways, you can remember them and
honor them at your wedding. You want them to be remembered happily at your
wedding. You don’t want to ruin it all with everyone sad over remembering and honor
deceased loved one.
