My second cousin Marilyn was an artist. When she was dying of cancer, an arts<br />
organization asked if she would contribute images of her artwork to their database.<br />
She was thrilled to be asked. I told her I would inventory the work with her. We<br />
spent many evenings going through her work, writing down titles and any recollections<br />
or stories she had about the work. I then had my gallery photographer come<br />
and photograph the work. Although weak, she seemed to gain energy from our<br />
project and she was involved with every detail. At the conclusion of the project, she<br />
said she had not been to the new Whitney yet. She wanted to see it before she<br />
died. I called a friend at the museum. They generously agreed to allow us into the<br />
galleries two hours before they opened to the public. It was her final trip out. She<br />
died a month later.
