President for collective efforts
to tackle climate change

President Dr. Arif Alvi
Tuesday stressed upon creation
of mass awareness
about the impacts of environmental
hazards and climate
changes, observing
that art could play a significant
role by making people
conscious about such challenges.
He also called for sharing
the collective responsibility
to tackle the issues of
environmental and climatic
changes.
The President was
addressing a an art exhibition
ceremony titled “Art
for climate change”
arranged by the Pakistan
National Council of Arts
(PNCA) here to highlight
artists’ endeavours for preserving
the natural beauty
of the country.
Dr Alvi regretted that
scenic valleys and pristine
environment of the northern
areas and spots like Naran
etc, were being ravaged by
the human activities of
felling trees and contaminating
the environment
with the construction of residential
units.
He recounted how

Punjab govt launches
vehicle registration
smart card
LAHORE: Punjab Chief
Minister Usman Buzdar on
Tuesday inaugurated issuance
of smart cards for registration
of vehicles.
All the vehicles would now
be registered through the smart
card that would be available at
Rs530. The main aim of this
initiative is to discourage fabrication
of documents and
streamline the whole process
of registration.
The car registration card
would carry features like vehicle
owners’ name, CNIC
details, chassis number, registration
number, date of registration,
engine number, previous
registration, token tax
expiry date, number of cylinders,
type of body, color of
vehicle, maker’s name, class
of vehicle, unladen weight, reg
laden weight, tyre size, front
axle, rear axle, other axle, year
of manufacturing, seating
capacity, horse power/CC and
Assessed Annual Tax.
The new automated card
features a Near Field
Communication (NFC) chip
which helps verify the card
details and displays expiry
date of the token tax.

actor Ali Ejaz passed away
in Lahore on Tuesday after
suffering a cardiac arrest.
He was 77.
Starting his career in
1967, Ejaz was well known
for his role in popular television
comedy-drama
series Khawaja and Son.
His other television hits
include serials like Lakhon
Mein Teen with Qavi Khan
and Athar Shah Khan and
Dubai Chalo.
He started his film
career in 1961 and worked
in films such as FBI
Operation Pakistan (1971),
Sona Chandi(1983), and
Chor Machaye Shor
(1996).

a name for himself in the
world of film and television
but in 2015 he launched a
