ACADEMIC QUALITY
A degree from SUU prepares you for the 21st century in distinctive
ways. A focus on Education Designed to Give Experience (EDGE)
means SUU graduates leave campus with a competitive advantage as
candidates for employment or graduate school. The EDGE Program
contributes to a high-caliber education by allowing students a formal
opportunity to create their own experiential learning project while
developing a richer and more sophisticated understanding of the
merger of thought and action.
Narrow learning is no longer good enough for the complexities you
will face when you leave campus. The best career preparation is one
that will position you with a set of portable, transferable intellectual
and practical skills that can be applied in a variety of contexts. SUU’s
philosophical approach to education is all about career preparation.
STUDENT PROFILES
Name: Bin Lu
Major: Economics
Country of Origin: China
The professors at SUU are very
kind, they do a lot of interaction
with students in the classroom,
and students and professors know
each other well. There are not a
lot of Chinese students so far, so
being here will help you to improve
your English listening and speaking
skills and learn some local cultural
traditions. Cedar City is a safe and
quiet place, and if you like nature
or outdoor activities, you have to
come here.
Name: Ngim Sherpa
Major: Biology
Country of Origin: Nepal
I have been experiencing a great
education and tremendous value
at SUU. One thing that I like about
SUU is its small class sizes where
students get personal attention
from professors. I like the fact that
the professors and classmates are
so helpful and encouraging. I can
always go and ask for help from my
instructors – for which I am grateful.
The events that SUU hosts are so
inclusive and there are many things
that I can participate in to improve
myself. The experiences I have been
given at SUU are life changing.
Name: Aziz Almatrody
Major: Business Management
Country of Origin: Saudi Arabia
I like A LOT of things about SUU. I
love the size of classes which allows
me to have a better relationship
between my professors and me. I am
a brother of Sigma Chi Fraternity at
SUU and it is one of the things that
makes me absolutely love SUU. I
enjoy how social our campus is and
the opportunity to meet new friends
everyday.
Name: Celine Cont
Major: Psychology
Country of Origin: Germany
SUU is a second home to me and I am
so glad that I made the decision to
come here. The professors really care
about you which makes it so much
easier to reach your academic goals.
There are also a thousand opportunities
to be involved on campus. I am part
of SUUSA which stands for “Southern
Utah University Student Association”
and it gives me the opportunity to get
work experience in my future job as
a marketing director. SUU helps you
accomplishing your dreams and I am so
happy to be here every day!
Name: Arsene Mugisha
Major: Pre-Medicine
Country of Origin: Rwanda
I first heard about SUU from friends and
professors who talked about the school’s
good pre-med program. Once I visited
the school I was impressed by the care
I received from the staff. They were so
friendly and welcoming I felt I belonged
to the school already. Class sizes are
small and I like the fact that I can get full
attention from my instructors. The school
location is close to all sorts of fun such
as Zion National Park, skiing and Las
Vegas. I was never very interested in the
outdoors but I didn’t know what I was
missing until I came to study at SUU.
