Kahoot! is an educational technology game you can play in classrooms.
Anyone, like teachers, can create quizzes for their students to play.
Asma Said Al Darei
Once the teacher creates the Kahoot! quiz, there are three steps for players
to set up Kahoot! to play. First, players pick up their phone to get connected.
Second, they download Kahoot! from App store/ Google play. Finally, they
put a PIN number and their name to start the game. To start playing, the
questions get on the screen with the answers in different colors. Finally,
players quickly choose the correct answer.
The first time I played Kahoot! was with my classmates and teacher Megan.
Before I played Kahoot!, I thought its boring and difficult to understand,
but after I played I changed my opinion. It's very exciting and enjoyable.
Kahoot! is one of the best ways for learning. It is an easy way to learn new
things and memorize vocabulary and grammar. Also it’s easy to understand
the rules of the game. My classmates really love the game and wanted to
play it again. My friend Fatima won the game and got a bag of candies and
shared with us.
The second time we played was on the Open Day. It was fun and enjoyable.
All level two students from different sections gathered together and played.
It was more challenging and fun.
The best thing about Kahoot! is that you play with your friends and have fun
with them. I suggest that everyone tries Kahoot!
It The Hall was packed with teachers and a large number of students.
was a day that started with great expectations. At 8:30 in the
morning, students assembled in the Hall for the Opening Ceremony.
The FP Director, Mr. Faisal welcomed the gathering and the Deputy
Director, Mr. David engaged the students with a game of Kahoot. The
quiz was about Oman. It was very competitive and enjoyable. After this,
students went to various venues for other competitions and activities.
The students of Level 2 and 3 had another game of Kahoot which seemed
much easier than the one on Oman. There were games in the IT section.
It was very interesting. There was a Bake sale that was organized in the
courtyard. This sale was meant to raise money for charity. Students helped
the teachers in selling food. The collection from this sale was given to
the Autism Centre. There was a speaking competition for students of
Levels 2 and 3. There were puzzles and riddles in Math and a game of
Jeopardy for Level 1 students. There were some fun games conducted by
the English Club in the courtyard. It was amusing to see students blindfolded
and trying to tail a camel. There was a game for teachers, too.
It was good to see the sportive side of teachers. They played a game of
popping balloons tied to the ankles. It was fun to see them running around
to save themselves from getting picked. There was a workshop organized
by the Students at Risk Committee that was much appreciated. Finally,
there was a closing ceremony where prize winners from the competitions
were honoured with certificates of merit. All in all, it was a memorable
fun –filled day.
Lamp and Candle
by Moneera Saif Al-Kalbaniya
I am a lamp,
You see me in different colors.
You see me every day,
When you study and cook,
When you eat and drink.
Without me your life is bad.
You must have me,
No one can do my job.
Sorry, lamp
I am a candle,
I can do your job,
And I am cheaper than you.
You cannot work without electricity,
But I can.
So, please, my dear, take me,
And forget the lamp.
Peer Tutors Meeting
A Report by
Thamna Kashoub
''Congratulations! You are the teachers of the future, '' Mr. Mohammed
Al Achamsi, one of the DUFP English Language instructors said at the
beginning of the meeting of SRC Students at Risk Committee with the
students selected as peer tutors for their relevant English classes. Then
we all tried to work out a definition to the term- Peer tutoring in Arabic
and English and what a tutor is expected to do.
Next, Ms. Rashida Khan told us with more details about peer tutors and
the importance of voluntary work among students. Ms. Rashida also
talked about how this type of work can be rewarding as well. Students
now know that certificates of participation, in recognition of peer tutors
will be issued at the end of the semester. Terms and conditions of such
certificates issuance were stated.
Finally, Mr. Faisal, the DUFP Director talked about the importance of
voluntary work and that students should have the spirit of healing one
another in academic context. He also added that communication is a
fundamental skill that university students should develop. Moreover,
he stressed that collaborative learning is an effective strategy that can
foster cooperation and enhance learning. A note of thanks for the
initiative was given by the Director to conclude the meeting.
Everyone has a role model in life. Nowadays, many people have
become famous for unusual things. However, there are also many
of them who have become famous for their good work. My living role
model is Oprah Winfrey. It would be a great opportunity to meet her.
She came from a poor family but changed her life to become one of
the richest people in the world today. Like everyone, she had dreams
but she didn’t give up and didn’t stop dreaming. She has helped a lot
of poor people and people with disabilities. She also fought for animal
rights. She has won a lot of national prizes. I would like to meet her as
she has greatly influenced me. I have become a better person because
of her. She has a huge impact on society and has tried to make it a
better place. I used to watch her famous TV show. I can never forget
the words she said- ‘You can’t begin to love yourself unless you know
who you are’. And– ‘You deserve the best version of yourself. Do not
stop dreaming’. I completely agree with her. We need to start working
to make our dreams come true. And if you don’t have a dream, create
one. So, nothing is impossible and I really
Oprah
wish I could meet her one
day. Oprah is a role model for the present generation of young people.
