For the past three months, I<br />

have had the opportunity at a<br />

first-hand experience working in<br />

the creative industry as a<br />

Design Intern at Saatchi &<br />

Saatchi Arachnid -a Publicis<br />

One agency- located in<br />

Menara Olympia, Jalan Raja<br />

Chulan in the heart of Kuala<br />

Lumpur’s golden triangle. This<br />

experience has been an<br />

eye-opening journey for me as<br />

my final project before completing<br />

my Diploma in New Media<br />

Communications and Contentpreneurship.<br />

This report stresses<br />

on the experience I have gathered<br />

at SSA; especially the work<br />

and projects that I have assisted<br />

on, all of my creative visuals,<br />

activities that were coordinated<br />

and have also included a<br />

comprehensive job description<br />

about my work there as an<br />

<strong>intern</strong>.<br />

Since October 2012, Saatchi &<br />

Saatchi Arachnid has always<br />

been the interactive marketing<br />

agency that focuses primarily<br />

on digital media as the main<br />

platform of advertising. Despite<br />

dabbling in a few projects that<br />

included mainstream media<br />

such as print, radio and prime<br />

time television from time to time,<br />

SSA’s digital expertise has won<br />

them numerous outstanding<br />

awards that decorates the<br />

walls of their office. Later in this<br />

report, I will discuss further on<br />

the history of this prestigious<br />

agency and its’ role in the<br />

industry as well as how they<br />

operate on a daily basis.<br />

Being a Design Intern at SSA, I<br />

was fortunate enough to work<br />

together with many talented<br />

and accomplished creatives.<br />

Despite playing a small role in a<br />

massive agency, many of these<br />

creative individuals gave a<br />

massive impact on my outlook<br />

on their line of work. Included in<br />

this report will be a complete<br />

documentation of my designated<br />

department which is the<br />

Creative Department and I will<br />

also discuss further on my role<br />

as an <strong>intern</strong> where I had to be<br />

involved in many creative processes<br />

for local and <strong>intern</strong>ational<br />

clients.<br />

Overall, this journey has been<br />

an amazing learning experience<br />

for me to independently<br />

understand the working environment<br />

better as a start<br />

towards the real-world. This<br />

<strong>intern</strong>ship was aligned with all<br />

the teachings that I have<br />

received during my years in<br />

university and has definitely<br />

became an experience where I<br />

could apply all that I have<br />

learned and has helped me<br />

realise how far I’ve come and<br />

how far still I have to go.

In the very beginning, none of this could have<br />

been possible without His blessing so I would like<br />

to express my highest gratitude to Allah S.W.T for<br />

allowing me accomplish my <strong>intern</strong>ship program<br />

and report in timr. He gave me patience when I<br />

was demanding and strength when I was weak.<br />

Without His guidance I would not be where I am<br />

today.<br />

Furthermore, I could not go through with this<br />

report without thanking all of the lovely people I<br />

have met at Saatchi & Saatchi Arachnid who<br />

have helped me with my transition when I first<br />

started out at the agency. They have all been<br />

so encouraging since my first day and for them I<br />

am grateful. First of all, I would like to thank my<br />

supervisors at SSA, Mr. Constantine Chew and<br />

Mr. Julian Lee for taking me under their wing with<br />

their never-ending support throughout my whole<br />

<strong>intern</strong>ship program. I am thankful for their time<br />

and willingness to share their knowledge and<br />

feedback to help me better serve my purpose<br />

there and to meet client demands with great<br />

effort. Sincerely, I would also like to express my<br />

gratitude to all the employees of the Account<br />

Management and Creative and Copywriting<br />

department along with all the other <strong>intern</strong>s who<br />

helped me gain an unforgettable experience. I<br />

will definitely cherish all of our memories together<br />

and I truly believe, that they have left me a<br />

better person today than when I started.<br />

Also, a very special gratitude goes to my <strong>intern</strong>ship<br />

supervisor, Ms. Wan Azfarozza Wan Athmar<br />

for her guidance and feedback in the completion<br />

of my <strong>intern</strong>ship report. She has done a lot<br />

in making sure that all of us are on track with our<br />

With any project, hardships and difficulties<br />

becomes the things that are going to hold us<br />

back. Some days are harder to go through than<br />

most and we will feel like the whole world is<br />

against us. During those tough days I was fortunate<br />

to have my friends and family who loved<br />

and supported me throughout. So to them, I am<br />

thankful. They believed in me when no one else<br />

did and they fought for me on days I couldn’t<br />

stand up for myself. I am nothing without them<br />

agencies, Saatchi & Saatchi<br />

Arachnid is one company worth<br />

mentioning. With a humble headcount<br />

of just under 40 creative<br />

and talented employees working<br />

together as one unit to deliver<br />

media-neutral experiences—with<br />

digital at its core—alongside<br />

creative solutions that will lead<br />

to engaging brand campaigns,<br />

this prolific company has been<br />

making its way through the advertising<br />

industry since 2012.<br />

Back in 1996, Saatchi & Saatchi<br />

Arachnid was formerly established<br />

as “Arachnid Sdn. Bhd.”<br />

before being acquired by the<br />

France-based company, Publicis<br />

Groupe, in late 2012. The former<br />

digital agency was rebranded<br />

along with Saatchi & Saatchi<br />

Singapore as one and has<br />

officially become a part of the<br />

Saatchi & Saatchi network in the<br />

Asia-Pacific region now known<br />

as Saatchi & Saatchi Arachnid<br />

in October 2012 with David Soo<br />

as Managing Director. Moving<br />

their offices from Mid Valley City<br />

to Menara Olympia, Saatchi &<br />

Saatchi Arachnid wanted to<br />

make room for not just new<br />

clients but also new directions.<br />

Now, Saatchi & Saatchi Arachnid<br />

operates as an interactive marketing<br />

agency under Terrence<br />

Low as the Business Director<br />

alongside Constantine Chew as<br />

Head of the Creative Department<br />

to oversee the entire operation.<br />

With firm roots in digital and<br />

interactive marketing, Saatchi &<br />

Saatchi Arachnid’s services has<br />

evolved into all forms of interaction-oriented<br />

touch points. It’s<br />

portfolio of clients range from<br />

many industries and many that<br />

are blue chip multinationals. Currently,<br />

their offices are servicing<br />

a roster including MINI, Nescafé<br />

Dolce Gusto, TM ONE, Kimball,<br />

Prego, Campbell’s and a lot<br />

more. Over the years, Saatchi &<br />

Saatchi Arachnid has received<br />

11 client-nominated and client<br />

judged Advertising + Marketing<br />

Agency Of The Year Awards in<br />

five agency categories including<br />

Digital Agency of the Year,<br />

Direct Marketing Agency of the<br />

Year and Creative Agency of<br />

the Year.

CHAPTER ONE<br />

Being in a fast-paced and tech-influenced<br />

industry, Saatchi & Saatchi Arachnid’s digital<br />

expertise has made them one of the most thriving<br />

agencies out there. From sparking many<br />

online brand-campaigns to running a series of<br />

mobile ads, this digital explosion from them has<br />

impressed many. Paralleled to their booming<br />

energy, it’ll only be fit if their offices are as<br />

impressive as their reputation.<br />

After the acquisition of Arachnid, the new and<br />

improved Saatchi & Saatchi Arachnid traded<br />

up their Mid Valley offices for one in the heart of<br />

Kuala Lumpur. Sharing spaces with Publicis<br />

Groupe’s arsenal of agencies such as Leo Burnett,<br />

Alpha 245, Prodigious and Publicis Malaysia<br />

in Menara Olympia, their 18th floor view is<br />

one breathtaking sight. Being situated in the<br />

infamous Jalan Raja Chulan, it can be hard to<br />

escape the weekly traffic but the rich heritage<br />

that surrounds the many colonial buildings<br />

around the area is something that everyone can<br />

appreciate.<br />

Located in the building are many other offices<br />

of different kinds so you can expect Menara<br />

Olympia to be constantly bustling with busy<br />

working people. There is a bus-stop where a lot<br />

of people would usually utilise the GO KL City<br />

Purple Line Bus that is free-of-charge that takes<br />

travellers from the Bukit Bintang area to Chinatown<br />

and back. This makes travelling to the<br />

office a lot easier since the bus-stop is directly<br />

in-front of the building.<br />

As the elevator doors opens on the 18th Floor,<br />

you can immediately see the offices of Saatchi &<br />

Saatchi Arachnid with Alpha 245 parallel<br />

towards each other since they share the same<br />

floor. Every employee holds an access card that<br />

enables them to enter their offices. As an <strong>intern</strong>,<br />

we were only given access to enter our own<br />

respective offices along with the access to enter<br />

the office of Leo Burnett on the 5th Floor.<br />

Each agency has a distinctive style and character<br />

in the interior design of their office. While<br />

Leo Burnett takes on a more classic and nostalgic<br />

feel and Alpha 245 has a rather quirky taste,<br />

Saatchi & Saatchi Arachnid’s offices has a more<br />

minimal and monochrome design to it. White walls<br />

are decorated with wide windows that highlight<br />

the Kuala Lumpur skyline beautifully with a clear<br />

view of KL Tower and also the KLCC Towers.<br />

Detailed with subtle notes of tiffany blue in their<br />

interior design, SSA’s offices are fully functional<br />

with a spacious pantry fully equipped with a<br />

free-flow of a variety of cereals, toast with condiments<br />

along with beverages from tea to<br />

coffee that are restocked every morning. Other<br />

than that. there are also 2 main meeting rooms<br />

that are nicknamed the “Ice Box” and “Sauna<br />

Room” which are used to entertain clients, hold<br />

meetings and where creative reviews happen.<br />

SSA’s working environment is definitely stimulating<br />

as a creative working space.
