Artistic Vigilante recently discovered a quadruple
threat of some serious talent that is Mia Mane from
Germany. She is a model, designer, makeup artist and a
photographer!
We had the privilege of interviewing Mia about her
works and her type of imagery which tilts towards
dark arts.
ARTISTIC VIGILANTE – How long have you been
shooting for and what would you say inspires your
type of photography?
Mia – I have not been taking pictures for such a long
time and am currently working on my fourth year as
a photographer. It started with the desire to make the
pictures, I always wanted to as a model so I tried a lot.
More and more ideas came along and finally I found
my direction and style today.
That does not mean that I am already exactly where I
wanna be, but so far I am quite satisfied with my development. Most
of my inspiration comes from movies
and my own work. Mostly, one idea entails the other.
My creativity works like an interlocking clockwork.
ARTISTIC VIGILANTE – What country are you
from and what are the challenges you face as a photographer
in your country?
Mia – I’m from Germany. In my work, I rarely look to
the left or right or what others do.I am very focused
on my own work and always face my own challenges.
With every shoot you can always find things that you
could have done better. My challenge is to make things
better next time, and to be closer to my own creative
goal. However, I believe that I will never really arrive
at my destination.
It would be boring (laugh).
ARTISTIC VIGILANTE – We noticed that a lot of
your pictures are gothic and dark beauty, can you talk
more on this?
Mia – Well, after I had tried out everything into the
first years, from concert photography to landscape
photography to fashion shots, I gradually found more
and more skills and techniques that allowed me to live
out my ideas in the Dark Art area.
These works live from the corresponding image
processing and it took me some time until I mastered
the editing program so far that I was satisfied with the
respective edits.
I have always been fascinated by the dark arts,
demons, witches, warriors etc.
There’s nothing more fun like watching a “normal”
girl become a black lady or an angry demon.
I do not want to take pictures the others like to
see. I want to take pictures that I like to see. Who
inspire me and cast a spell on me.
ARTISTIC VIGILANTE – You seem to also
personally make the props and costumes for the
photo shoots,why is that?
Mia – My art lives from every detail. A Madonna,
evil queen or a warrior in jeans with
nice hairstyle just does not work. Costumes and
accessories are just part of it.
Since I have very precise ideas of what I have to
implement and what my picture has to look like I
initially looked for the corresponding accessories
for the Internet.
Either I did not find anything that came close to
my idea or it was prohibitively expensive.
Since I already designed and sewed parts for costumes
and accessories in my work as a videographer
(I’m actually from the field of videography
before I began to take pictures), it was obvious
in photography to expand on this and make my
own accessories according to my wishes.
ARTISTIC VIGILANTE – Can you tell us a bit
about your preferred gear and the technicalities
involved in taking a portrait the way you do?
Also explain your light setups.
Mia – Well, I own a mid-range camera and have
always worked with Canon.
I prefer working with a beauty dish and prefer
little light and a lot of shade in my pictures
ARTISTIC VIGILANTE – What does the future
hold for you as a photographer and what are the
things we should expect from you in the coming
years?
Mia – Well, I hope that the name Mia Mane become
known in the dark art area and my pictures
will be seen.
My goal is to become one of the best and most
creative Dark Artist in the world. I work hard on
that. And I will continue to work on this in the
future and expand my creativity and to an absolute
maximum.
