mokenamessenger.com sports the Mokena Messenger | January 3, 2019 | 27 Athlete of the Week 10 Questions with Mason Sargent Mason Sargent is a senior on the Lincoln-Way Central wrestling team and played defensive lineman on the Knights football team How’d you get started in wrestling? Since I was little I always had an interest in it. My dad signed me up with the Lincoln-Way Falcons club and it just kind of grew from there. Do you have any rituals or superstitions before a match? It’s not really a superstition, but I try not to get too freaked out, just try to stay calm. What’s your favorite memory from wrestling? I have a lot of memories from wrestling. But, if I were to say one, it was probably Granite City [Tournament in East St. Louis] two years ago because of the kids who were there. It was just a lot of fun to wrestle and learn. What would be the first thing you’d buy if you won the lottery? I’d buy my mom’s house and my dad’s house, too. I’d try to have a good time, but try to save it and make it last a long time, too. How does wrestling help you in football? It helps me with being able to use my leverage because football, for my position, I’m not exactly a very big kid. I’m kind of undersized for what I played. So, it just helps me to be able to move around better and play better. What’s your favorite movie? “Step Brothers.” I just think it’s hilarious. Who would you choose as a tag-team partner? “Stone Cold” Steve Austin from WWE. He’s a really cool dude. He’s got a cool persona. I like his moves. If you could have dinner with anyone living or 22nd Century Media file photo dead, then who would it be? John Denver. I’m a big fan of John Denver’s music, and I think it’d be really cool because I think he’s an interesting guy. What are your goals for the rest of the season? I want to be able to make it to State, but then I want to be able to place. What’s one thing you own that you couldn’t live without? Probably my truck. It’s a really cool truck. It’s a 1996 Ford F-150. Sexy truck. It’s grey with a maroon stripe on the bottom. Interview conducted by Editor T.J.
