<strong>and</strong> from his alpha-bed<br />

out <strong>Quick</strong> spun.<br />

“<strong>Quick</strong>, quack, quick,<br />

it’s Duck Dance Day today!<br />

Quack, quick, quack,<br />

no time to stop <strong>and</strong> play.<br />

I’ll eat my yummy Quacky-Brek<br />

while flying on my way.”<br />

he rest of the Vowel Fowl<br />

were already out on Rhyme Lake<br />

waiting for <strong>Quick</strong><br />

as he flapped<br />

<strong>and</strong> flipped<br />

into the water.<br />

“We’re the dancing Vowel Fowl ducks.<br />

We’re Quack!<br />

Queck!<br />

<strong>Quick</strong>!<br />

Quock!<br />

Quuck!”


ack at <strong>Kick</strong> <strong>Quick</strong> Sticks,<br />

<strong>Kick</strong> woke feeling so sad-sick.<br />

K<br />

K K<br />

Q Q Q<br />

He looked out to Rhyme Lake,<br />

where his Rhymer<br />

was with the Vowel Fowl again.<br />

<strong>Kick</strong> was missing <strong>Quick</strong>.<br />

“We no longer race <strong>and</strong> play.<br />

I’ve been kicking my heels every day.<br />

Every rhyme <strong>and</strong> Rhymer needs two.<br />

Oh what, what, what can I do?”<br />

u


hrough the window<br />

the wise wind whistled <strong>and</strong> blew.<br />

“Be a duck.<br />

Be a duck too!”<br />

<strong>Kick</strong> smiled<br />

<strong>and</strong> <strong>Kick</strong> knew,<br />

knew just what to do…


ick found his<br />

big,<br />

flippy,<br />

flappy<br />

flippers.


e<br />

a<br />

ll was calm on Rhyme Lake<br />

as the Vowel Fowl<br />

practised their dance.<br />

i<br />

o<br />

u<br />

“A new dive, new roll,<br />

new twizzle, new turn,<br />

a new wiggle, new waddle…<br />

Many moves to learn.”<br />

But then…


PLASH!


nto the middle of the dance<br />

leapt <strong>Kick</strong>.<br />

“I’m a duck!<br />

Another duck!<br />

Hey, look at me!<br />

I can kick,<br />

kick,<br />

kick,<br />

as happy as can be!”


ick was having great fun.<br />

His kicks were getting<br />

bigger,<br />

bigger,<br />

bigger!<br />

Rhyme Lake was getting<br />

muddy,<br />

mubble<br />

puddled.


uack,<br />

Queck,<br />

<strong>Quick</strong>,<br />

Quock<br />

<strong>and</strong> Quuck were soaked.<br />

<strong>The</strong> frogs flew far <strong>and</strong> crossly croaked.<br />

“Enough!” cried <strong>Quick</strong>.<br />

“No more splashing <strong>Kick</strong>!<br />

You’re not a duck.<br />

It’s not your day,<br />

so please just...<br />

go away!”


ick stopped.<br />

His heart sank.<br />

He felt sad-sick once more.<br />

<strong>Kick</strong><br />

flipped,<br />

flapped<br />

<strong>and</strong> ran,<br />

as his tears<br />

flapped,<br />

flipped<br />

<strong>and</strong> ran.


he other Vowel Fowl looked at <strong>Quick</strong><br />

<strong>and</strong> cried, “Foul!”<br />

a<br />

e<br />

<strong>Quick</strong> knew what he had done.<br />

i<br />

“All I have been is quick, quack, quick,<br />

only thinking of Duck Dance tricks.<br />

I’ve given no time to my Rhymer <strong>Kick</strong>.”<br />

o<br />

u<br />

“Go <strong>and</strong> find your friend now<br />

quick,<br />

quick,<br />

quick!”


ick was sadly<br />

kicking his ball<br />

against Happy Humpty’s<br />

old brick wall.<br />

i<br />

“I’m so, so sorry <strong>Kick</strong>,<br />

for not including you.<br />

We want you in our Duck Dance Day.<br />

What would you like to do?”<br />

<strong>Kick</strong> wiped his tears.<br />

He thought.<br />

He knew…


he <strong>Rhymers</strong> all lined up<br />

in the line that they best know,<br />

ready <strong>and</strong> waiting<br />

for the dazzling Duck Dance Show.


“<br />

e’re here to cheer, to sing <strong>and</strong> shout.<br />

We want to know<br />

who let the ducks out?”<br />

<strong>The</strong> Vowel Fowl glided on to Rhyme Lake.<br />

i<br />

u<br />

“A – E – I – O – U<br />

we’re here to do our dance for you.<br />

Watch us duck, watch us dive.<br />

We’re your favourite Vowel Fowl Five.<br />

o<br />

And now we have<br />

our number six,<br />

ready to show<br />

his Duck Day tricks…”<br />

he ball dazzled,<br />

dancing<br />

on <strong>Kick</strong>’s flipper feet.<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>Rhymers</strong> cheered to see his skills.<br />

“Such a Duck Day treat!”<br />

<strong>The</strong>n a flip,<br />

flap,<br />

flick<br />

<strong>and</strong> the ball flies to each duck,<br />

bouncing first to<br />

Quack, Queck, <strong>Quick</strong><br />

<strong>and</strong> on to Quock <strong>and</strong> Quuck.


he friends smiled together.<br />

i<br />

u<br />

<strong>Quick</strong> quacked up.<br />

“Thank you <strong>Kick</strong><br />

for your football flicks.<br />

It’s never too late<br />

to teach old ducks new tricks.”
