Producer’s Market + Culinart Arts School + Workshop + Residential
VISION
The proposal consists of a mixed-use development within the Woolloomooloo navy carpark (north), comprised of
a local producer’s market, culinary arts school, tradeworkshop and residential units, with a focus on addressing
cohabitation and multiculturalism in Sydney. Moreover, the project is an exploration of the idea of ‘security’ and
provides a point of contrast to the broad alienating practices of national defence and border security, through
using design as a platform to advocate for social adaptation, up skilling, job and financial security.
With the site’s origins rooted in growing fresh produce for naval operations in the late 18 th century, its significance
as a point of embarkation for troops and as a point of arrival for immigrants, its rich history guides the project’s
programmatic mix, architecture, joinery details and material choices. As such, the vision reimagines the utilitarian
and publicly inaccessible structure as a bustling precinct which fosters a sense of community, facilitates
active engagement from its visitors, and connects the site to the greater city.
