We have raised Casey since he was 8 weeks old. He loves his family but can be a little hesitant at first of humans he comes in contact with. He was the only male in an all-female litter and his breeder indicated he was the shyest of the bunch. Casey is the ultimate lapdog and loves nothing more than hanging out and cuddling with his owners. He is very smart and obedient and is so much fun to be around! Please Help! Three candidates file for Northbrook Village Board Caucus-endorsed Ross, Hebl, and incumbent Israel to run uncontested Martin Carlino, Editor Hebl Ross Israel The Northbrook Village Board of Trustees is poised to have a new look in the spring of 2019, as Johannah Hebl and Heather E. Ross, two Northbrook Caucus-endorsed first-time candidates, officially filed their paperwork to run in the April 2, 2019 election. Incumbent trustee Robert Israel joins Hebl and Ross as candidates who filed for three open seats. The seats of James Karagianis, A.C. Buehler III and Israel are up for election in April. The Northbrook Caucus voted to slate three firsttime candidates — Ross, Hebl and Ihab Riad — for the three open seats in October. But the three incumbent trustees challenged the caucus recommendations at its Nov. 4 town hall meeting. The more than 420 residents who attended the town hall overturned the endorsement of Riad in favor of Israel. As previously reported by The Tower, Israel received 275 votes to overturn the recommendation and Hebl and Ross received 266 and 242 votes, respectively. Karagianis finished with 198 votes and Buehler finished 138, placing them fifth and sixth and not earning the recommendation. Hebl, a resident of Northbrook since 2004, is an estate planning attorney with Matlin Law Group of Northbrook. Hebl has served two terms on Northbrook’s Stormwater Management Commission. At the town hall meeting, Hebl said she was excited at the level of participation she saw, and hopes that it will continue. After her years on the Village’s Stormwater Management Commission, Hebl was appointed to the Village’s Plan Commission in 2017. “In my current capacity, I strive to balance the interests of developers and residents to make sure Don’t just list your real estate property... that any zoning variance is best for our community as a whole,” Hebl says in her candidate profile listed on the Northbrook Caucus website. In an interview with The Tower, Hebl said she believes she has the needed experience for the position because of her prior service on two boards within the Village government. Ross, a 14-year resident of Northbrook, is the co-founder/partner of a reproductive technology law firm formed in 2005 in Northbrook, according to the website. Ross said now that her law firm is more established and her daughters are older, she has the time needed to serve on the board. “This just seems like a really good time in my life to become more involved directly with the village,” Ross told The Tower. Ross has practiced law since 1993, but said although she is an attorney by trade, she considers herself an advocate. At the town hall meeting, she shared similar sentiments as Hebl regarding the community turnout. The incumbent Israel, currently serving his eighth year on the board, began his work in the Village nearly 20 years back. Israel, a civil engineer, is a 22-year resident of Northbrook. He’s also previously served on the Stormwater Management Commission. Israel is currently the chair of the Ad-Hoc Facilities and the Public Works Committee. “My life has taught me to listen; to think through issues, repercussions and unintended consequences; and most importantly to build bridges, both literally and figuratively,” he says in his candidate profile.
