In future, Malbun is keen to continue positioning<br />

itself as a compact and friendly recreation and<br />

holiday destination with a focus on families. Without<br />

neglecting the winter season, the focus will<br />

increasingly turn to the summer months – where<br />

Malbun’s history as a tourist centre began over 100<br />

<strong>years</strong> ago.<br />

FROM «ALP BUN» TO «MALBUN»<br />

1351<br />

A document records that the first Count <strong>of</strong><br />

Vaduz presented Malbun Valley to the Municipality<br />

<strong>of</strong> Schaan-Vaduz. In 1355, the Valser<br />

acquire part <strong>of</strong> Malbun on a hereditary lease.<br />

1652<br />

Triesenberg acquires part <strong>of</strong> Malbun from Vaduz<br />

and Schaan, which is used above all for agriculture<br />

and Alpine farming, as well as for hunting.<br />

1908<br />

The «Alpen Kurhaus und Touristenstation<br />

Malbun» («Malbun Alpine Health and Tourist<br />

Resort») opens. During the summer months<br />

the resort accommodates up to 20 guests. The<br />

building exists to this day as the Alpenhotel<br />

Vögeli.<br />

1934<br />

The Kurhaus («Health Resort») remains open<br />

throughout the year for the first time.<br />

1947<br />

The Gnalp-Steg Tunnel is opened after a twoyear<br />

construction period.<br />

1961<br />

The Malbun–Hocheck ski lift is built.<br />

1964<br />

Construction <strong>of</strong> the Malbun–Sareis Chair Lift.<br />

1966<br />

Lifts are also installed in Täli and Schneeflucht.<br />

2000<br />

The two previously independently operating<br />

companies Skilift AG and Malbun-Bahn AG<br />

merge to form the mountain railway company<br />

Bergbahnen Malbun AG.<br />

2003<br />

To safeguard the future <strong>of</strong> the winter sport<br />

resort <strong>of</strong> Malbun, the old lifts are to be<br />

replaced by new equipment and snow canons<br />

are to be procured. The project is completed by<br />

the 2006 season<br />

2007<br />

Malbun is awarded the quality seal «Family<br />

Destination» by the Swiss Tourism Federation for<br />

the first time.<br />
