Inside This Issue...
Welcome back to Speak It Christian Magazine! Our first issue was a great success with
over 1300 readers. Thank you for sharing the publication with your friends, family members,
co-workers, and church families. I pray that each reader has been blessed with an article, testimony,
advertisement, or inspirational quote.
Just in case you are wondering about the sunrise, it is our logo for the vision and will
be located on and in each and every issue. Each day that God wakes us up it is another chance
to get it right. It is another expression of His love for us. It is grace and mercy manifested. The
picture was taken years ago on a beach trip. The women in the women’s ministry wanted to
know why in the world I was getting up so early on what was supposed to be our vacation. God
would not let me rest until I had the perfect picture of His artwork...the morning sunrise. It is
of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are
new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. Lamentations 3: 22-23.
In our second issue, there are additional writers who are sharing their testimonies and
stories of faith, healing, and restoration. I pray that you are encouraged, which is the goal of
this ministry.
Deacon Willie Kimble Jones

There is a saying that states, “Birthdays
are God’s way of showing grace and mercy. For
this one hundred and five year old deacon of Faith
Missionary Baptist Church, there seems to be no
shortage of either one! I sat down with this fiery man
of God to have him enlighten us about life. Since he
has lived for over a century, there has to be some
wisdom he can give us, as Believers on how to walk
this Christian journey. In order to preserve his exact
words, much of this article will be in question and
answer format.
When we sat down at his kitchen table, I first
asked him how would he like to start the interview.
I told him I had a list of questions, but he could feel
free to speak on anything he wanted. The first thing
he said was, “When you see me, you see a man of
God!” His tone of excitement and joy remained
throughout the entire conversation. We laughed
more than we talked.
Question 1: What advice would you give a young
Christian just starting out on their journey with
Christ?
Deacon Jones: “That’s a tough question. But I would
tell them to stay in church, tell the truth, live one day at
a time, and don’t go out and try to live a whole month
in one day. (He giggled) You have got to have some
guidance. You can’t make it on your own. I would also
tell them to accept Christ. God did not intend for us to
make it on our own. That’s why he sent Christ.”
Question 2: What has kept you going spiritually all
of these years?
Deacon Jones:”I accepted Christ at an early age. I
didn’t go astray. I was obedient to my parents. It wasn’t
nothing I did. The Lord just blessed me because I was
obedient.” (More giggles) “Whoo who!”
Question 3: If you could change anything about your
past what would it be?
Deacon Jones: “I wouldn’t change nothing. I did the
best I could. Only thing I would change about my past
was the fact that you had to do what the white folks
said. Them old klu klux would beat you if you sassed
them. Prayer changed that for us.”
Question 4: Tell me about your childhood and your
parents.
Deacon Jones: “My mother was a fiery woman. She
won’t lazy either. She did all she could for her children,
and there were ten of us..all stair steps. We were less
than two years apart. And won’t no services back them,
but they kept us all together. Mama and daddy did all
they could to make sure we had a place to stay and
something to eat. We never went hungry. Now a days
people can’t even raise one. But mama and daddy made
it work. Thank the Lord we made it.
My mom went to Shaw University from 1909
to 1910. My daddy begged her to stop and marry him,
and she did. That was big back then to go to college,
cause a lot of people couldn’t read. But mama could
read. Preachers would come over to the house, and she
would read the Bible to them. I tell you what, them
old preachers back then couldn’t read but they show
could preach! They could make the hair stand up on
your head! My mama read the Bible to the deacons too.
People would come from all over just so mama could
read them the Bible.”
Question 5: I know you had a long marriage before
the passing of your sweet heart. Do you have any
marital advice for couples?
Deacon Jones: “We were married for 70 years! Whoo
who! We were introduced by a friend, and the first time I
saw her, I said, ‘That’s my wife!’ She was always sweet
and she didn’t fuss about me having to go off and sing. I
traveled a lot; and the girls would go crazy when I sang.
But it didn’t bother her. But I knew she had a temper, so
I didn’t bother with no girls. I remember one time she
got mad at me. And to this day, I don’t remember why
she was mad. All I remember is I turned around, and the
heel of her shoe was in my forehead. I had to go to the
hospital. I mean she was mad. And I don’t even know
why. But we didn’t argue at one another. I left home at
26 when I married her and stayed with her. And I never
stayed out all night on her. “
Question 6: Is there something special about you
that you would like for the readers to know that you
don’t mind sharing?
Deacon Jones: “I couldn’t go to school until I was 6
years old. But by the time I went I could add, read, and
write cause mama taught me. I was the best student in
Wake County. I was smart and I was athletic. But I had
to stop school to work on the farm. We could only go
to school when it rained. I got me a job as a butler. On
paydays, I didn’t even open my pay. I took it home and
laid it on the table. Mama would give me a dollar and I
was satisfied. I was just as happy with that dollar as if
I had the whole pay cause I wanted to help out. Yeah. I
was satisfied with that.”
The joyful man of God went on to describe
how when he first started to sing people tried to talk him
out of it. They told him he misunderstood his calling
because you couldn’t sing the Gospel. But Deacon
Jones says he did sing it. And he was pretty good at it.
He recalls that he sang from 1925 up until 2000.

Deacon Jones says he started out singing by
himself. He started his first group in 1928. One of
the members drowned, and they stopped singing.
He then started another group called The Willing
Workers. Next the Silver Echoes. He went to New
York to sing, and record executives wanted to sign
the group; but he said was married and he was not
going to go every where they told him to go. So he
made his own career. He sung all over the place
locally where ever he could. He laments, he tried
to hit every church in Wake County! He had one
rule when they traveled. They had to keep the girls
off of them. Deacon Jones, squeals, “I mean they
would go crazy when we sang!”
As we brought our conversation to a close, I was
just amazed at the wit and joy and love that exuded
from Deacon Willie K. Jones, as we so lovingly
call him at church. The fire in his spirit is none
short of the Holy Spirit living on the inside of him.
Any conversation he has with any person, whether
young or old is bubbly. He hollers out in church
when he’s feeling good, “Somebody oughta say
something!” Well Deacon Jones, we are saying
something. We love you, we admire you, and we
thank God for the light that you are in our church,
in our communities, and in our walk with Christ.
Your actions and your words will help us to also
be satisfied.....satisfied with our families...satisfied
with our blessings....but most of all, satisfied with
Jesus!

Heaven’s Currency
By David Newby
“God, give me some money!” The money
has always been there. Your problem is that you just
don’t know what it looks like. Heaven’s currency is
not the same as earth’s currency. On earth, we call
bills and coins “money.” In Heaven, God calls faith,
knowledge, wisdom, blessings, Divine protection,
Divine guidance, understanding, favor, grace, mercy,
the Word of God, Divine provision, connections, an
idea, business opportunities, being a joint heir with
Christ, earthly authority, and the power to get wealth,
“money”.
You got the money the moment you prayed for
it. You just didn’t recognize it when it came. And you
became impatient and lost faith because the money
didn’t look like what you expected it to look like
($50 bills, $100 bills, etc.) Any wise person knows
that Heaven’s currency (faith, etc.) simply has to be
CONVERTED into earth’s currency (bills, coins).
You can no more use wisdom to buy a house
than you can use US dollars to purchase Canadian
products. The currency has to be converted before
you can use it. In short, God doesn’t typically work
in just bills and coins. I’ve never seen cash fall from
the sky. In fact, there was only one time that I heard
of money miraculously appearing from nowhere
(when Jesus got the coin from the fish’s mouth). But
I have seen many ideas fall upon people. I have seen
business opportunities become available to them. I’ve
seen favor follow them. I’ve seen many organizations
prosper as a result of the favor cloud upon certain
individuals that work there: the entire company got
blessed because of one, or a select few people. I
have also seen people form some incredible business
connections through networking, which of course, to
the faithful, patient, and understanding person, leads
to money.
I have also seen some incredible business connections
form through networking, which of course, to
the faithful, patient, and understanding person, leads
to money.
Convert the money that God gave you--
through ideas etc.--into money on earth (cash,
checks, coins, currency, etc.). How do you do it?
By FAITH and OBEDIENCE to God! Faith without
works is dead. Work your faith. Let it work your
provision. Of course, a little bit of patience while the
money is being exchanged, helps as well.
“On October 5, 2018 while
home I began experiencing
heaviness on the left side of my
body. My wife immediately drove
me to Wake Med North Emergency
room for evaluation. While there I
was assessed in triage and treated

for my symptoms. Although the CT
scan and blood work came back
normal all signs indicated I had a
stroke. I was transported to Wake
Med main hospital for additional
testing. The next day a MRI was
performed and the results indicated a
light stroke on the right side of the
brain, which was a result of high
cholesterol. This affected the left side
of my body causing numbness and
tingling on that side of my body. As
time passed on I experienced more
difficulty lifting my left arm and left
leg to the point I was no longer able
to walk without assistance. The
neurologist ordered inpatient
intensive physical, speech and
occupational therapy for 4 weeks. I
was transferred to Wake Medical
Rehabilitation Hospital. This was
very humbling as I found myself
restricted to the bed or wheelchair
depending on medical staff. They had
to assist me to get in and out of bed
and to care for me around the clock.
From October 10th until November
7 th , I took physical therapy from
morning til afternoon. During this
time I prayed, meditated on the Lord
and believed that God would heal
me. My pastor, the church body, as
well as several other church
congregations and pastors were
interceding on my behalf and
encouraging me. God surrounded me
with reminders of his presence and
promises. I had three medical staff
members that I believe were
dispatched by God as a reminder. A
nurse name Anu, Mercy and Angel.
Each morning on my Facebook page
I posted #NewMercies because God
grants them to us each day. It was
only God who could have
orchestrated these individuals to be
my caretakers while there. My
family was there faithfully
supporting and encouraging me in
physical therapy serving as my
cheering squad. Each week I got
stronger and stronger. By week
two I was able to stand on my own
and was not a fall risk. By week
three, all restrictions were lifted
and the therapist worked patiently
with me. The therapists were
extremely helpful in my recovery
and also were amazed at the
miraculous healing. It was
mentioned that I was the first
inpatient to be discharged from the
hospital walking and able to drive
without restrictions. I graduated
from a wheelchair, a walker, to
walking alone within this period of
time. God is truly a Healer. “

All Hands on Deck
Katrena J. Kilpatrick
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek
my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive
their sin, and will heal their land.
2 Chronicles 7:14

The phrase all hands on deck originated
on ships when all crewmen were needed on deck
to complete a lot of work in a short period of
time. This short descriptive phrase is simple, but
has an in depth meaning. The dictionary says it
is a cry that is used when all members of a team
are needed, usually in an emergency situation. I
recall the years that I worked for a medical insurance
call center. When the call volume was high,
the supervisors would send out an email or make
the announcement, “all hands on deck.” When
we were under an all hands on deck alert, supervisors
would have to also take calls. Any requested
time off would be rescinded. And any new
requests for time off were denied. They needed
all hands on deck. Even recently, on a job at a
non-profit agency that I worked for, when it was
time for auditing or grant proposal deadlines, the
director would say, we need all hands on deck.
Even today if we watch the news or glance
at social media, we see that as believers in the
most High God, we need all hands on deck. When
they are contemplating arming school teachers
with guns in the classrooms, we need all hands on
deck. When children are expected to raise themselves,
we need all hands on deck. When absent
parents believe providing financial resources for
the children is nonessential, we need all hands
on deck. When elected leaders have no morals,
and no accountability, church, we need all hands
on deck.I’m not through! When regular citizens
go onto a school campus to shoot up the place,
we need all hands on deck. When popular music
with a catchy beat negatively infiltrates the
ears and minds of our young people, we need all
hands on deck. Oh yes, and when young women
proudly display the spirit of Jezebel on social
media, we need all hands on deck.
With all this going on, you may wonder
how in the world can we make a difference?
People have mental illnesses that go untreated.
Others have issues that go unchecked. Some
Christians are trying so hard to win the souls,
they are beginning to act like the ones they’re
trying to change. We can’t stress it enough. We
need all hands on deck.
It may suffice to say, that we have been praying.
We have been witnessing. We have been doing
all we can, and the world still seems like it is going
to hell in a hand basket. Don’t be alarmed or
stressed out when you watch the television. The
Bible is our instruction book for life and everything
pertaining to it. The author of 2 Chronicles
is unknown, but he gives it to us plain how to
fix the ills of society. If my people, which are
called by my name, shall humble themselves,
and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their
wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and
will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 2
Chronicles 7:14. To do this we need all hands on
deck.

Traditions
Some traditions are alright. Having a baby stick his hand in the cake at a
first party is cute. Decorating for the holidays is a joy.
Attending community events with youth is rewarding.
Making Christmas cookies is such a delight. Learning how to quilt
is enlightening and heart warming. Sitting around the table eating dessert
after sharing a meal with family is filled with laughter. All of these
traditions enrich our lives and help the next generation behind
us know from whence they came. But there are some traditions that
should be steered clear of. If a tradition keeps us stagnant and
slows our growth, we need to make sure we prayerfully consider
other options. Ask for input from friends or family that are
involved in the process. Be open to change. If it does not work
as far as contributing to the love, growth, and fellowship....ditch it!
