I hardly sleep, I have constant night terrors.
My mum has to sit with me till I fall asleep. I
don’t like falling asleep, I am frightened of what
will happen because Dad is sure to kick off.
I hit, spit, shout and scream when I do not get my
own way.
It works for dad.
I smash things. Dad smashes things.

…Last night my 13-year-old son, Sam, witnessed
my partner hitting me. It's the first time he's hit
me after mental abuse, and for my son to see it
has rocked us to the core. My son has just had to
make a two-hour statement at the police station
saying what happened and what he saw.
I couldn’t sleep at night because I could hear him
picking on my mum and accusing the man
around the corner of looking at her. The man was
looking at my mum because she is pretty, and I
told Daniel the man was cutting his lawn and
looked and smiled at mum. He went mad and
stormed out.
When he stormed out I was pleased because I
hated him. But then he would come back, and I
would say to mum, ‘I don’t want him here’. My
mum said she had to move on and I wouldn’t like
any boyfriend, but I did. I liked Mike, who was
mum’s boyfriend before Daniel. Mum stayed
friends with Mike because he was kind, but mum
said he was ugly. Daniel stopped mum being
friends with Mike, and Daniel deleted my garage
on my Playstation because it said ‘Mike’s Place’.
Mike had given me the game. I was upset because
I lost all my cars and Daniel was jealous. But I
couldn’t get my cars back and I was really upset.
"I hated being at home when he was there, I wanted to move in with my dad
but I knew mum would get upset. I didn’t want to leave her because I was
scared he would hurt her."

My mum met Daniel on an Atlantic cruise. He sat
on our dinner table with my mum, me and
granny. He was very nice and made us laugh,
and mum kept in touch with him. He started to
come to our house every weekend because he
lived far away.
Daniel used to annoy me because he used to cut
me out, when I was with mum, and he would
blame me for everything and open all the letters
and check my mum’s phone. He would come
running though and ask, threateningly, “Care to
explain?” and start quizzing us both. My mum
would get angry and tell him to go, but he would
walk out and then come back and upset us.
I hated being at home when he was there, I
wanted to move in with my dad but I knew mum
would get upset. I didn’t want to leave her
because I was scared he would hurt her.
Daniel always said it was my fault, and when he
did things wrong or broke things he would blame
me. He broke mum’s iron and blamed me. I got
angry and he shouted at me and upset me. I told
my dad and he shouted at Daniel on the phone
and I just wanted to go.
Once, on the boat, he was doing the lock and he
was messing it up and mum was laughing and
she was going to help him. He fell into the boat
and blamed me. It wasn’t my fault but he shouted
at me, so I sat in the cabin all weekend and mum
said I spoilt the weekend. It was Daniel, not me.
He was moaning and blaming me.
I’m pleased Daniel never moved in with us,
because I was always in the way. He hated me
and he hated mum talking to Mike. He deleted
Mike’s number and was always challenging
mum. Mum would then shout and get stressed
with me. Every time we were going to go out he
spoilt it.
Then Daniel hit my mum in front of me and I had
to tell the police what he did. I was really scared,
because I thought he would hit me, so I rang my
dad. My dad was really angry and said, ‘It’s
about time your mum got rid of that idiot’.
My mum is really upset and I hope he doesn’t
come back because it is so relaxed now and I can
be with my mum without her being upset. I keep
telling her she should get rid, and I hate him. I
hope she listens now...
