Police Reports
Axe-wielding man arrested
Anthony L. Shrout, 31, of
176 N. School St. in Braidwood,
was charged Dec.
26 with unlawful use of a
weapon, possession of drug
paraphernalia and illegal
transportation of alcohol.
According to police reports,
an officer was dispatched
to the 19200 block
of Tramore Lane on a report
of a person being followed
by subjects in a red truck
who had displayed a knife.
While en route, dispatch
advised the officer that two
more calls were reported
where callers said two men
in a red truck were observed
outside of the truck swinging
axes. The officer searched
the area, located a truck
matching the description and
initiated a traffic stop.
The officer ordered the
driver, Shrout, to step out
of the vehicle and place his
hands on the hood. A folding
knife reportedly was found
in Shrout’s front pocket,
brass knuckles in his rear
pocket, and two axes were
located in the bed of the
truck.
While speaking with
Shrout, the officer reportedly
could detect the smell
of alcohol on him. The officer
observed a can of beer in
plain sight in the truck’s center
console, six more beers
unopened in a storage area
behind the driver and passenger
seat, five empty cans
of beer in a plastic bag, and
a bottle of rum that was 1/3
empty.
The officer also located a
wood and metal pipe, both
with suspected cannabis residue
on them; a grinder; and
an empty container labeled
“Grassroots Cannabis.” A
third axe was discovered behind
the passenger area.
Shrout was then placed
under arrest.
Dec. 30
• Michael A. Macis, 48, of
11540 Jenyglenn Drive in
Mokena, and Daniel L. Canniff,
49, of 19935 Everett
Lane in Mokena, were both
charged with battery.
According to police reports,
an officer was dispatched
to the 9700 block of West
191st Street for a report of
two subjects fighting, one
of whom was hit in the head
with a glass bottle.
Upon arrival, the officer
spoke with both men and
witnesses at the scene. It
was determined that the men
were speaking at the bar
when Macis punched Canniff
in the face, and Canniff
responded by hitting Macis
in the head with a bottle.
Both men were then placed
under arrest.
Dec. 31
• Jasmine J. Silas, 26, of
8547 S. Carpenter St. in
Chicago, was charged with
unlawful use of a weapon,
driving with no valid driver’s
license and improper
lighting.
According to police reports,
an officer on patrol in the
area of West 191st Street and
South LaGrange Road observed
Silas traveling southbound
on LaGrange Road
with one headlight out. The
officer initiated a traffic stop,
where Silas was able to provide
insurance information
but no driver’s license. A
check of her driver’s license
came back as no valid Illinois
driver’s license.
Silas was then placed under
arrest. While searching her,
the officer discovered a stun
gun in her coat.
