Rockville’s traditional premiere all-day, summer-long camp. 

Have a blast at this all-day, all-summer fun and active camp! Register by the week or stay 

all summer long. Enjoy the best in camp games, crafts, sports, gym time, outdoor play, 

theme weeks and much more! Swimming several times every week, field trips and special 

events add to the excitement. Children will be grouped by age. Early morning and lateafternoon 

activities offered in a supervised, informal setting. Bring a bag lunch, snack and 

drink. Register for the eight-week option (nine-week option for Twinbrook CRC) and save. 

Participants must be age 5 by Sept. 1, 2019.

Bushcraft Camp 

During this five-day skill-builder, 

campers learn and practice the 

fundamentals of making fire, procuring 

drinkable water, constructing a 

survival shelter and land navigation. 

Each day focuses on a new skill and 

culminating on Friday with a Survival 

Skills Challenge – a series of 10-minute 

challenges that cover all of the skills 

learned throughout the week.

Abrakadoodle - 

Camping through the 

Wild West 

Join Abrakadoodle in the Wild West 

for an adventure through western 

America. We will create our western 

outfits, wrangle the local critters, 

and learn about Native American art 

and culture. Play games, tell campfire 

stories, and ride off into the sunset on 

your trails through the landscape. So 

saddle up for cowboy and cowgirl fun 

in the Wild, Wild West. Participants 

must be toilet trained and age 3 at the 

start of the program. Bring a healthy

games, reading stories, learning about 

ecology and examining underwater

a competition on the last day of

All matter is composed of atoms

of hands-on activities, illustrations 

and animations to help participants 

understand what is happening at the 

molecular level.

& Astronomy 

Uncover the secrets of the solar 

system and beyond! Participants learn 

about space weather, supernovas, 

black holes and the moon’s phases. 

They continue their investigation of

space travel, meteorites, how to 

use a telescope and more. Campers 

construct their own spectrograph to 

study light, discover what stars are 

made out of, and build and launch a 

water rocket.

Invention Camp 

This applied STEAM lab unlocks 

the power of innovation through 

LEGO-based design, engineering and

and more, while learning real-life 

application in the critical areas of 

science, technology, engineering, the 

arts and math (STEAM).

This action-packed week focuses 

solely on rockets and the physics

finally recovery of the rockets they 

build. Campers are divided into 

three groups: altitude trackers, 

launch preparation, and launchers.

The Inventor’s Camp 

Creative Contraption Warning! This 

is a camp designed by you – the 

Inventor! Each day you’ll be given 

a series of challenges which must 

be overcome using basic materials, 

simple machines, tips from world 

famous inventors and the most 

important thing of all – your mind. 

With a little bit of ingenuity you’ll 

construct catapults and forts and 

then lay siege, fabricate a winning 

egg drop design, play with a dancing 

robot and assemble a working 

light saber to take home. While 

Thomas Edison said invention is 10 

percent inspiration and 90 percent 

perspiration, this camp is 100 

percent fun!

Mad Science introduces you to the 

foundations of forensics as you learn

Conduct electricity and power a 

Mad Science whirligig. Experience 

blood pumping through the heart 

and air moving through the lungs. 

Use ooey-gooey ingredients to 

build a model cell and use your own 

traits to decode and decipher your

and apply some crime scene skills to 

solve a sticky crime!

Calling all pilots! As a Mad Science

delicious camp, campers will do all 

of that! Savory recipes like Mexican 

layered dip or spinach and artichoke 

dip in wonton wrappers will be 

made side-by side with lemon glazed 

blueberry donuts and chocolate 

donut holes with toppings. These are

Financial Assistance 


Financial Assistance 

Rockville Youth Recreation Fund 

Ages 18 and younger 

A limited amount of scholarships for program fees are available 

for residents of the City of Rockville. The participant must pay 

$15 toward each program fee, unless otherwise specified. The 

Fund will cover the balance of the fees, up to $100 maximum 

per person, per session (fall, winter, spring, summer); $150 

maximum per youth for the camp session; $1,000 maximum per 

family, per year as funds permit. Any remaining balance must be 

paid by the participant. Financial assistance must be applied for 

in-person at the time of registration. 

In addition, qualified participants who enroll their child in a 

program that meets a child care need and costs more than 

$115 per month, are eligible to apply for monthly financial aid 

assistance of up to $100 per month, with an additional cap 

of $1,000 per family, per year as funds permit. The $15 fee is 

applicable to each month. This includes, but is not limited to, 

preschool, after school and community center extended day 

programs. Summer camps are not included in this program. 

Applications for monthly scholarship assistance must be 

approved by the Superintendent of Recreation and must be 

applied for in-person at Rockville City Hall with the Recreation 

Department bookkeeper. 

Limited financial assistance is available for Rockville residents, 

ages 19 and older, based on income. Please call 240-314-8620 for an 

appointment. 

Documents Needed for 

Financial Assistance: 

Participants must provide proof of Rockville residency and 

verification of any of the following: 

• Award letter from Maryland Dept. of 

Human Resources/Montgomery County 

Dept. of Social Services verifying eligibility for 

Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA), Food Stamps 

(SNAP), Transitional Emergency Medical and Housing 

Assistance (TEMHA). The letter must indicate eligibility 

period and names of household members receiving 

benefits. 

• Proof of Medical Assistance from Montgomery 

County Dept. of Social Services. Form to be received 

from county offices. 

• Proof participant resides in a shelter: Letter 

from shelter dated within a month of application and, if 

applicable, listing dependents living at shelter. 

• Proof of Rental Assistance: Public Housing, 

HUD Section 8 Housing, HOC (MPDU not accepted 

for applicants purchasing a home). This must be a 

current document which names the eligible tenants 

from the agency providing assistance. 

• Supplemental Security Income: Document 

must be dated within one year of application.

The City of Rockville Department of Recreation 

and Parks strives to maintain the highest-quality 

programs and professional standards. In conjunction 

with this goal, the camp program is self regulated 

under the Maryland Department of Health 

and Mental Hygiene and undergoes periodic 

inspections. As a result of this certification, there 

are specific policies and procedures the city must 

follow to be in compliance. All required forms 

are available at www.rockvillemd.gov/campforms. 

Note: You may duplicate your child’s 

forms if your child is attending multiple 

camps. 

• Participant Health and Information 

Form 

This form will be emailed along with other 

important information and forms prior to 

the start of each camp session. Be be sure to 

complete and send with your child on the first 

day of camp. This form also includes important 

dismissal information. 

• Prescription/Non-Prescription 

Medication 

If your child will be taking medication during 

camp time, specific medical forms must be 

completed prior to attending. The forms may 

be obtained by downloading them at 

www.rockvillemd.gov/camps or emailing 

camps@rockvillemd.gov. These forms must be 

signed by a physician. 

• Immunizations 

If your child is not currently attending a school 

in Maryland, you must provide a copy of proper 

immunizations upon registration. Note: This will 

apply particularly to those entering kindergarten.

Most camps are held rain, shine or Red 

Zone days. On Red Zone days, outdoor 

programs provide low-key activities, 

water breaks and rest periods. Camp dismissal sites

Campers must bring a lunch, a snack and 

drink. Healthy choices and reusable containers are 

encouraged. No glass containers. Campers are not 

permitted to purchase any food at the pool snack 

bar. Note: Refrigeration is not available at most sites. 

Swimming 

Most campers will have a recreational swim 

period at Rockville Swim and Fitness Center 

on designated days. Specific information will 

be included in the Camp Information Packet, which 

will be emailed approximately 10 days prior to the 

start of camp. Make sure your email is current in 

our system. 

Photos 

The department reserves the right to 

photograph and video programs and 

participants for publicity purposes. 

Camp Closure 

Call 240-314-5023 for pre-recorded information 

on the status of camp in the event of weather or 

other emergency. If camp has to be cancelled due to 

weather-related circumstances or any other reason 

beyond our control, we will work to provide camp 

services at an alternate location. If that is not possible, 

camp will be cancelled.

Many of our camps fill quickly! So if you want your first 

choice, we encourage early registration. 

Registration 

Registration begins Tuesday, Jan. 22 at 8:30 a.m. via online, 

mail-in, fax and drop-off registration. All registrations received 

before Jan. 22 will be processed beginning Jan. 22. 

Payment Plans 

Register early to take full advantage of the payment 

plan options: 

Summer Camps: Jan. 22 – March 14 

• The payment plan divides the amount due into 

four payments. 

• A portion of the fees are due at the time of 

registration with the remaining payments due on

• Separate payment is necessary for each family. Each 

registration is processed separately. Every effort will 

be made to accommodate requests that children be 

placed together, though there is no guarantee. 

Payment must be made upon registration using Visa, 

MasterCard or check, made payable to the City of 

Rockville. Note: There is a $35 returned check charge.

cannot be transferred from one child to another.

Registration Deadlines 

Register early! Get your first choice camps and avoid 

being put on a waiting list. 

• The registration deadline for most camps is two 

weeks prior to the start of the program. 

• Programs may be canceled if registration is 

insufficient. If a program is canceled, you will be 

contacted and you may then select an alternate 

program, request a credit or refund. 

Age Requirement 

Participation in most programs is based on child’s 

age as of Sept. 1, 2019 (per MCPS). Note: Most 

preschool camps require that children be the appropriate 

age at the start of the camp. See specific camp 

descriptions for details. 

Camp Confirmation 

Notification of camp status will be emailed within 

one week of registration for those registering via 

fax or mail. Make sure your email is current in our 

system. 

Refund Policy 

Refund requests must be received, in writing, at least 

two weeks prior to the start of the program. 

This will allow for accurate decisions on staffing, 

planning and supplies. 

• You may choose either a credit to be placed on 

your recreation account or a refund. 

• Credit or refund requests received after May 15, 

2019 are less $50 per registration. 

• No refunds can be issued within the two-week 

start date of the program.

Transfer Request 

Requests to transfer from one camp to another are 

subject to space availability. 

All requests must be in writing. 

• Registrations cannot be transferred from one 

child to another if there is a waiting list. 

• Email requests to registration@rockvillemd.gov 

Waiting List 

• If your desired camp is filled, you will be notified 

and placed on the waiting list and your payment 

will be returned. 

• Every effort will be made to accommodate those 

on the waiting list. 

• When and if an opening becomes available, we 

will go to the waiting list to fill the camp. 

Are You a Resident? 

City residents are those individuals residing within 

the city’s corporate tax limits and therefore pay the 

resident rate for camp fees. Verify your residency to 

determine your program fee. Do not assume that a 

Rockville mailing address is within the city’s corporate 

tax limits. Proof of residency may be requested 

via driver’s license or water bill.
