Objectives<br />

INFORMATION<br />

The overall objective <strong>of</strong> the conference is to explore ideas by bringing together<br />

individuals in the public sector such as political leaders, academicians and from the<br />

private sector including businesswomen and men and the civil society to share their<br />

experience and critically examine how to enable the best conditions to accelerate the<br />

implementation <strong>of</strong> the UNSCR 1325 and 1820 in the <strong>Horn</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Africa</strong>.<br />

The purpose <strong>of</strong> the conference is to enhance the capacity <strong>of</strong> stakeholders, including<br />

civil society, in the <strong>Horn</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Africa</strong> <strong>with</strong> knowledge and tools to enable them to act<br />

progressively and effectively in favour <strong>of</strong> the UNSCR 1325 and 1820, as well as to<br />

promote institutional change in the <strong>of</strong> <strong>Horn</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Africa</strong> to better respond to women’s<br />

needs and situation. The specific objectives therefore include to:<br />

· Raise awareness <strong>of</strong> women’s needs and situation in the <strong>Horn</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Africa</strong> through<br />

context analysis <strong>of</strong> what has been achieved and what is lacking.<br />

· Raise awareness <strong>of</strong> <strong>Horn</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Africa</strong>n governments' social service expenditures.<br />

· Raise awareness <strong>of</strong> UNSCR 1325 and 1820 in a <strong>Horn</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Africa</strong>n context.<br />

· Promote the inclusion <strong>of</strong> <strong>Horn</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Africa</strong>n women in the decision-making<br />

positions in their respective governments, as well as in regional and<br />

international organizations.<br />

· Promote women's (memberships) positions in governmental decision-making<br />

institutions.<br />

· Promote the participation <strong>of</strong> <strong>Horn</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Africa</strong>n women in conflict prevention<br />

and resolution processes.<br />

· Promote networking between <strong>Horn</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Africa</strong>n women’s women peace<br />

organizations, and other stakeholders.<br />

· Promote maintenance and protection <strong>of</strong> due process <strong>of</strong> law and<br />

constitutionalism in <strong>Horn</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Africa</strong>n countries.
