TWU’s theatre program has a vibrant home in the
19,000-square-foot Redbud Theater Complex
designed by Bottino Grund Architects of New
York and Austin. It includes a 120-seat theater,
rehearsal space, classrooms, scenic and costume
shops, administrative and other spaces necessary
for a first-class theatre program.
All students have opportunities to work
closely with the dance, music and visual arts
departments in the TWU School of the Arts.
Faculty work individually with students to
develop their talents and provide quality
productions.
Students also have the opportunity to show
work in four major annual productions, as well
as student-directed plays.
To enrich the overall experience and provide
professional contacts, the department has
developed a comprehensive internship
program. Interested students are given
college credit for work in regional and national
organizations or in youth training programs.
TWU Theatre faculty engage in their discipline
both academically and professionally and
frequently collaborate with theatres throughout
the U.S. and United Kingdom.
Global and National Theatre
In the 21st century, students should be
aware of the global aspects of theatre.
Study trips are planned every three years
to major international centers to investigate
unique methods of producing theatre. TWU
theatre initiatives have led our students to
performances in Ireland, Scotland, the Czech
Republic and off-Broadway in New York City.
