Welcome<br />

Hello <strong>Maga</strong> Women<br />

As this <strong>issue</strong> of the <strong>Maga</strong> <strong>Woman</strong> magazine is released I am<br />

somewhere wandering around South America. For many years<br />

my husband had a dream to go to Machu Picchu and this<br />

year to celebrate both his 60th birthday and the fact that<br />

he his still (somewhat) healthy having been diagnosed<br />

with 2 different forms of cancer in the past 12 months,<br />

we decided to go. The lead up to this trip has been a bit<br />

challenging for me, you see I had done none of the<br />

organising for this trip. All I had to do was to turn up and<br />

trust that everything would be okay, for a control freak like<br />

me this was a big stretch.<br />

Being in a foreign country where I don’t speak the language<br />

and I don’t really know what is going to happen more than<br />

a couple of days ahead, has really taught me that you are never<br />

really in control of anything outside of your own reactions.<br />

Interestingly this is a conversation that I have had on one of<br />

the interviews that appears in this <strong>issue</strong>.<br />

I will let you know in the June <strong>issue</strong> how our trip went and how I went at<br />

being a passenger on this ride. If you want to check out some of the photos you<br />

This <strong>issue</strong> of the magazine is all about self-care, self-love and connecting to your inner<br />

self. These are such important topics, particularly for women who are often used to<br />

putting everyone else first and sometimes neglecting themselves. As you move into your<br />

<strong>Maga</strong> <strong>Woman</strong> stage of life, you are ready to re-claim that part of yourself that you buried<br />

many years ago, but this often means that you need to learn how to put yourself first<br />

again.<br />

There are some great articles in the magazine that give you some great tips and the<br />

2 interviews that I did for <strong>Maga</strong> <strong>Woman</strong> TV are fantastic. Keri shares how to have that<br />

great love affair – with yourself. And Carren goes down the rabbit hole as we delve into<br />

connecting with your inner world to create an effortless outer world.<br />

Until next month when I will be back from South America with a few tales to tell I am<br />

Who is in the<br />

Drivers Seat?<br />

Here I am, sitting on my balcony<br />

on the Ruby Princess Cruise ship,<br />

docked in the beautiful port of<br />

Katakolon Greece. I’m sitting in the<br />

sun contemplating life, as I do….<br />

And I get this blinding flash of<br />

questions, which prompted me<br />

to write this article.<br />

As I write it, I’m blown away because<br />

I don’t know if I will get the<br />

answers by the time I get to the<br />

end of it. I sure hope this rabbit<br />

hole leads to a rainbow…. For<br />

both our sake!!!<br />

Ok…. Here goes:<br />

Who does the driving? Does the body drive<br />

the mind and determine our actions etc (like<br />

hunger…. The body drives the desire to eat) or<br />

does the mind drive the body? Does the mind<br />

determine that it’s time to eat, and therefore<br />

habitually we eat?<br />

I’ve used hunger as this example but lets<br />

look at love…. Does the body determine the<br />

feeling of love or does the mind drive love?<br />

Who is driving us? Is it the mind or is the body??<br />

Well, I would naturally lean toward the mind<br />

being the driver, because I know, that the body<br />

does have cellular memory, but innately it is<br />

a neutral vehicle consisting of blood, bones,<br />

t<strong>issue</strong> etc. So, if this is true, and science tells us<br />

that it is…. Then it must be the mind right?<br />

Ok, down the rabbit hole we go!<br />

What is the mind? Possible answers could<br />

include:<br />

Me, my personality, my beliefs and<br />

my attitudes and values ..<br />

This leads to the next question:<br />

Where did they come from and are they<br />

true? They are just perceptions based on past<br />

experiences and someone viewing the same<br />

experience would have a different perception<br />

about it…so our beliefs and values are unique<br />

to us, but certainly not a universal truth.<br />

The next question is:<br />

What is my personality? When we cut you open,<br />

we don’t find your personality. All we find is a<br />

neutral body…. We stitch you back up again,<br />

and bingo… you’re back again!!<br />

1. Where did you go?<br />

2. How come you have to be conscious in<br />

order to be inside the body and<br />

3. How come we can’t actually find you?<br />

4. How come you’re not physical, like your leg<br />

is physical?<br />

5. If you’re not physical, what are you?<br />

My brain….<br />

This leads to the next question that your brain<br />

is just a grey ball of neurons, t<strong>issue</strong> and an<br />

incredibly mysterious network of electrical reactionswhich,<br />

when stimulated, will cause both<br />

physical and emotional responses….. When we<br />

are walking around each day, who is doing the<br />

stimulation? If you automatically respond with<br />

“me, I am doing the stimulating”…. Go back to<br />

the first possible answer above!<br />

So, it doesn’t matter which way you answer<br />

this question, there is a response which arises<br />

in a ‘rabbit in a headlight’ look that leads to<br />

no answer or possibly an answer that involves<br />

another Intelligence that is outside of the body,<br />

but expressed through the body.<br />

Lets go down this rabbit hole for a second<br />

and flirt with its potential:<br />

If there is a grander intelligence outside of<br />

the body, but expressed through the body,<br />

then this intelligence is doing the driving!!! Do<br />

you know what this means??<br />

1. The same intelligence that drives me, drives<br />

you. This means that we are not separate at<br />

all, in fact, quite the opposite! If that same<br />

intelligence that drives you, is driving me,<br />

then surely that intelligence has a purpose<br />

and drives us all toward that purpose…..<br />

2. What could that purpose be? What are we<br />

really here for? It can’t really be to make a<br />

difference and to contribute because I would<br />

imagine the grander intelligence has that<br />

under control…. But why do we all have this<br />

inner desire to help each other and make a<br />

difference then? Could this be a part of the<br />

educational reason we are here…. To discover<br />

that there is a grander intelligence that<br />

expresses through us, and when we discover<br />

this, we realize there is no need to try…. No<br />

need to compete, no need to struggle and<br />

paddle up-stream just to get ahead in life<br />

and perhaps we are just here to enjoy it….. to<br />

play instead? Could it be that simple??<br />

3. If the same intelligence that drives me, is<br />

driving you, it’s no wonder that we all have<br />

the same Ultimate desire to participate in<br />

the greater good of the world<br />

4. If everything we’ve ever done has been as a<br />

result of this grander intelligence, then I’ve<br />

never really been in control…. I’ve believed<br />

I have been in control and responsible, but<br />

the truth is quite the contrary!<br />

5. I have been running around believing that ‘if<br />

it’s going to be, it’s up to me’ but if it’s going<br />

to be, it’s up WE!! Me and the grander intelligence!!<br />

If this is true, who is the grander<br />

intelligence and I wanna know it…. Intimately!!!<br />

Where is it? How can I connect with it? Is<br />

it in me? Is that feeling of depth inside? My<br />

Soul? Is it that feeling of love?<br />

Every cell in the<br />

body has a job.<br />

Every cell knows its<br />

job and no one cell<br />

is actually different<br />

in structure or make<br />

up to another.<br />

6. We are NOT alone!! We are not separate<br />

and in fact we live in an environment which<br />

is actually about inclusion, not exclusion<br />

but our belief that we are separate trying<br />

to make life work is an illusion and we have<br />

been fooling ourselves…… why? Why would<br />

we believe that we should be disconnected,<br />

when we really aren’t and never have been!<br />

How has this disconnection and separation<br />

served us? It hasn’t actually. It’s been our<br />

undoing all along throughout time…. When<br />

the opposite has been true all along. How<br />

come we didn’t see this before?<br />

So, now, I’m thinking a little further….. How<br />

do we explain murderers, thieves, abuse etc?<br />

How do we explain the people who don’t care<br />

about the greater good?<br />

Well, if we are to look at the body as an<br />

example of what could possibly be a snapshot<br />

of the Universal body…. …. Each cell is<br />

identical, yet they all have different jobs. They<br />

all work for the greater good of the body and<br />

will sacrifice themselves for the greater good<br />

if necessary. There are also cells in the body,<br />

which, when given destructive conditions, will<br />

begin to consume more than they need (just<br />

like our society) and we call these cancer cells.<br />

They are so destructive, they will in fact destroy<br />

everything in their path, consuming everything<br />

in their path, until they destroy themselves,<br />

by destroying their host. These cells are the<br />

ultimate kamikaze cells! Similarly, in society we<br />

have people, that given the right conditions, will<br />

turn on humanityuntil they ultimately destroy<br />

everything in their path until they destroy themselvesand<br />

the host…… in other words, global<br />

demise (think terrorism now!).<br />

However, like the human body, when we<br />

change the conditions of the body by participating<br />

with the grander intelligence in a<br />

profound way, meditating, eating real foods,<br />

cleaning up our anger, our perceptions and<br />

our beliefs about truth, we can potentially turn<br />

off the activity of this destructive force with<br />

success….. perhaps, we can do the same when<br />

it comes to humanity and society….. Perhaps<br />

if we were to realize that we are not doing the<br />

driving….we have the potential to WAKE UP<br />

to a new and enlightened way of living in this<br />

world and with a collective commitment to this<br />

clean up, we can turn these kamikaze people<br />

around, or off and begin to live in peace and<br />

harmony?<br />

Is it possible that when we believe we are<br />

doing the driving, which results in our fear, anxiety,<br />

depression, sickness, dis-ease, we believe<br />

we are ultimately alone, separate and left alone<br />

to wonder this planet in search of purpose,<br />

money, success and freedom, yet never finding<br />

it….. only finding sporadic moments of love and<br />

laughter contrasted by longer periods of loss,<br />

fear, anxiety, striving and struggle? Clearly, this<br />

way of living and believing, is not working for<br />

us. In fact, it is creating that destructive environment<br />

where we are turning on ourselves,<br />

consuming more than we need because we<br />

believe we are in lack and ultimately leading to<br />

an existence of implosion and self destruction!<br />

When we actually question the very nature<br />

of existence in terms of who is thinking you?<br />

Who is driving you and what makes us all the<br />

same….instead of what makes us different….. as<br />

we did at the beginning of this article we cannot<br />

avoid confronting the possibility of another<br />

intelligence participating in our lives yet we are<br />

ignoring it. We are not acknowledging it therefore,<br />

not understanding and relating to it, yet it<br />

is possible that this grander intelligence is the<br />

very source of our unity, harmony and greater<br />

good! There is another way of existing in this<br />

life that has been there all along. It is not new, it<br />

is not foreign to us, and it is no stranger. It has<br />

How do you know you<br />

exist? Really? How<br />

do you know what<br />

truth really is?<br />

been closer to you than your own nose and you<br />

just didn’t see it because it’s always been there!!<br />

Think about it. How do you know, who you<br />

are? Really. How do you know you exist? Really?<br />

How do you know what truth really is? If you<br />

hadn’t been taught by your family, school, university,<br />

and perceptions of your experiences,<br />

what would you believe truth to be?<br />

My point here is that everything is made up!<br />

It’s been passed from generation to generation<br />

through story, education, conditioning and<br />

perceptions, but how do we know that any of<br />

it is actual truth? We don’t!! We only know what<br />

we know…. When we cross over into this line<br />

of questioning, we are moving into the realms<br />

of what we don’t know, we don’t know but the<br />

magical part about this questioning is that no<br />

question has ever been asked, without the potential<br />

of answer existing somewhere!<br />

No text book can answer this question, no<br />

study can reveal the truth about ‘who is doing<br />

the driving’….. only your internal experience will<br />

have you discover the awareness that exists in<br />

you and the more you’re willing to explore this<br />

question, the closer you will come to knowing<br />

the answer for yourself and I believe…. Knowing<br />

who you truly are, and that you are WAAAAAAY<br />

more than you have given yourself credit for!!<br />

Is this the answer I was hoping for when I<br />

first started writing? I don’t know…. Somehow<br />

I feel incomplete yet I know this has opened<br />

a door that I’ve never walked through before.<br />

There is a different shade of light on the otherside<br />

of this door which I am willing to enter<br />

because one thing I know for sure….. this world<br />

equires us to wake up and experience wholeness<br />

and harmony….. and the way we are interacting<br />

and have been for generations is leading<br />

us to one outcome…. Self destruction. If we are<br />

to act for the greater good of the whole, more<br />

and more of us need to clean up the environment<br />

in which we exist. I for one am willing to<br />

answer the calling….. how about you?<br />

The Door That’s<br />

Never Sealed<br />

—How to access your intuition,<br />

even when you can’t think straight<br />

Imagine this scene:<br />

You’ve been out all day. You’re tired and a little<br />

bit irritable. You’ve got a lot on your mind and<br />

you have a big decision to make. You’ve been<br />

churning it over for days but the deadline is<br />

zooming in and youstill have noanswer.<br />

The more you think about it, the less clear<br />

you become. You’re stressed and worried.<br />

You’ve discussed it with everyone and even<br />

been to see your favourite tarot reader – twice!<br />

You arrive home, crossing your knees andclenching<br />

your pelvic floor in desperation. Your<br />

bladder is full. You can’t hold on much longer.<br />

Frantically, you search through your bag for the<br />

key to your door.<br />

You can’t find it.<br />

Tipping your bag out on the front step, desperately<br />

you search for that key. You still can’t<br />

find it. By now you’re convinced you’re about to<br />

wet yourself and you burst into tears of frustration.<br />

The door opens. You had forgotten that your<br />

best friend is staying with you.<br />

A little later, you discover your door key was<br />

in your bag all along. You were never locked out<br />

at all.<br />

Getting messages from your intuition when<br />

you’re feeling under pressure can be a bit like<br />

that!<br />

So how can you receive your true guidance<br />

and most perfect answers when you can hardly<br />

sort out the thoughts in your head?<br />

The very first thing to do is breathe.<br />

Halt your racing thoughts and take several<br />

long, slow, deep breaths. Just focus on your<br />

breathing. Bring yourself right back into the<br />

present moment. Feel everything slow down.<br />

Remember that you DO have the answers.<br />

One way to ask your inner wisdom for the<br />

answers is to do the following exercise.<br />

Work out what you really want to ask.<br />

Your question might look like:<br />

“What’s the best thing for me to do<br />

regarding ________?”<br />

“What do I need to know about ________?”<br />

“Is there something I’ve missed in this situation?<br />

If so, what is it?”<br />

“What’s the next best step for me to take?<br />

“How can this situation be resolved?”<br />

Having formed a clear and concise question,<br />

you can take a deep breath in and on the exhale<br />

say to yourself, “My body says …” and allow<br />

and answer to come to you. Say the first thing<br />

that comes to you, without thinking through<br />

what it might be. Then say again, “My body says<br />

…” and allow the answer to come. Repeat this<br />

step as many times as you need to (minimum<br />

3) until there are no more answers.<br />

Next, slowly inhale, thinking of the question,<br />

and when you exhale, say, “My mind says…”<br />

and allow the words to come. Again, repeat this<br />

step until there’s nothing left.<br />

Thirdly, inhale deeply, with the question in<br />

mind, then exhale, saying, “My heart says …”<br />

and say the first thing that comes to you. Repeat<br />

until there are no more answers.<br />

Lastly, breathe in slowly and deeply, thinking<br />

of the question. Exhale slowly, saying, “My<br />

Highest Guidance says …” and see what floats<br />

into your mind.<br />

It’s worth remembering too, that your answers<br />

may come in pictures, songs, stories that<br />

you know, etc. Be open to whatever comes, in<br />

whatever form it arrives.<br />

After you’ve tried this exercise a few times,<br />

in different situations, you’ll find that it’s quite<br />

quick and easy and you will be surprised at how<br />

effective it is.<br />

It’s always useful to write down your question<br />

and the answers you receive. Make a note<br />

of how your body feels and any physical sensations,<br />

images, feelings or thoughts that come<br />

to you. Write whatever comes, without censoring<br />

or thinking about it. Even if nothing makes<br />

sense, write it down– it may become clear over<br />

the next few days.<br />

Over the past few<br />

months I have been<br />

writing articles on stress<br />

management and the<br />

sub-conscious mind.<br />

The subconscious mind<br />

controls the way we feel<br />

and the way we live our<br />

lives. Often in times of<br />

stress and overwhelm,<br />

we revert to learned<br />

behaviour.<br />

Remember we talked about Subconscious<br />

stress triggers in the last <strong>issue</strong>?<br />

It’s like having a computer program running in<br />

the background of our lives. A file error pops<br />

up, it slows everything down and the file error<br />

is repeated until we make some changes to the program,<br />

make some space on our hard drive, or just reboot.<br />

The way we react to situations is learned behaviour, so<br />

it can be changed. You can change the way you react to<br />

things. You absolutely can.<br />

One of the ways you can do this is to have a Coping<br />

Toolkit on hand. Have some strategies and methods in your<br />

back pocket that can make you aware of your reactions and<br />

manage them. Here are three simple tools you can pop into<br />

your toolkit.<br />

1. INFINITE LOVE AND GRATITUDE<br />

You see this phrase a lot on my blog, my Facebook page,<br />

my book, my emails. It’s because I use it. I use it because it<br />

works.<br />

In times of irritability, stress and frustration, tune into<br />

how you are feeling. Notice any images that come up in<br />

your mind’s eye, notice where you are feeling the emotion<br />

in your body and then notice the words that you can hear in<br />

your head about this situation. Ask yourself - “do I choose to<br />

feel this way”. The answer will generally be No.<br />

Place your hand in the “I love you”<br />

hand posture (see right). Place your<br />

hand, in this position, over your heart<br />

and say the words “Infinite Love and<br />

Gratitude” until the emotion shifts.<br />

Notice the new emotion that you can<br />

now feel, it might be peace, calm or<br />

something similar.<br />

You have replaced your emotion, which is often<br />

based around fear or anger, with love and<br />

acceptance. Love and fear cannot exist at the<br />

same time. Replace fear and anger with love<br />

and feel your anxiety levels decrease.<br />

2. JOURNALING<br />

Journaling is a great way to get you through<br />

feelings of stress and overwhelm. Sitting down<br />

before you go to bed, letting go of everything<br />

that’s in and on your mind by writing in a journal<br />

does wonders for your inner peace.<br />

Just write. It doesn’t have to make sense.<br />

Literally write the day off. Write it off. You have<br />

a new day dawning tomorrow. As you write,<br />

release the negative feelings that have built up<br />

through the day.<br />

Whatever is in your head, just keep writing.<br />

If you can’t think of what to write, simply write,<br />

“I have got nothing to write, I have got nothing<br />

to write”. It will eventually clear and things will<br />

start coming out. That is a really good way of<br />

tapping into the subconscious mind working<br />

on your thought patterns and beliefs. And the<br />

more you clear that, the less overwhelm you<br />

have in your life.<br />

If you can, find it in your heart to release a<br />

stressful situation, forgive somebody who really<br />

upset you that day. Let it go. And rest. This is<br />

for YOUR inner peace. It will really help you<br />

sleep easier.<br />

3. CREATING INTENTIONS<br />

Creating intentions is also another<br />

tool to have in your Coping Toolkit.<br />

Often stress occurs when you feel<br />

out of control or you don’t know what<br />

to do next. Waking up everyday and going<br />

through the same motions and emotions<br />

will only give you the same outcome, nothing<br />

will change. But if you wake up every morning<br />

with an intention of how you would like the day<br />

to be, you will get a different outcome.<br />

Making an intention is not the same a creating<br />

a goal. Dr Joe Dispenza, Neuroscientist,<br />

defines intentions as “getting clear on what you<br />

want but surrendering to how it will occur”. If<br />

you know that you don’t want to feel stressed<br />

and overwhelmed every day, then why not<br />

make an intention when you very first wake up<br />

in the morning that today you will feel happy,<br />

excited, peaceful (insert your emotion here).<br />

You will amazed how differently your day will<br />

unfold if you set a morning intention and refocus<br />

Buzz word?<br />

SELF LOVE… Is it another “BUZZ” word?<br />

Is it a load of rubbish? Do you reach<br />

the holy grail? I mean for real… is it all<br />

it’s cracked up to be?<br />

This concept of self-love is everywhere these<br />

days. And lots of people are preaching it. The<br />

question is… do they believe it to truly be possible?<br />

Do you believe it? Have you ever experienced<br />

it?<br />

So what is it? Self- love?<br />

It is not love driven by ego.<br />

It is awareness of self. It is love for all parts<br />

of self… the beautiful and the ugly. It’s awareness<br />

that you are capable of the worst and also<br />

the best… and still loving you. It’s loving your<br />

body, no matter the size. It’s looking after and<br />

nurturing all levels of yourself… mind, body and<br />

spirit…<br />

In my opinion… self-love is not a “buzz”<br />

word... but it can be… if you take it for it’s superficial<br />

experience. Saying you love yourself<br />

doesn’t make it the end of the journey. Generally<br />

speaking… it’s only the beginning. For many<br />

of you reading this, even doing that will bring<br />

tears to your eyes… if you look yourself in the<br />

eyes, in your soul and say it and truly mean it…<br />

So what are 5 crucial pieces that are an<br />

absolute must in order to fall in love with<br />

yourself… deeper and deeper in love?<br />

1. Be willing to spend time with yourself<br />

2. Have people around you to hold you to a<br />

higher standard. Fire the rest.<br />

3. Look at your mindset, the stories you are<br />

telling yourself, the stories that others<br />

told you and you believed… are they<br />

true? What do you want to think instead<br />

and STICK WITH IT.<br />

4. Be courageous. Have the deep conversations<br />

with people when it scares you.<br />

Be willing to go ALL IN to living an aligned<br />

life. Don’t go halfway.<br />

5. Forgiveness. Forgive yourself first. Forgive<br />

others who you feel have hurt you.<br />

Realise… your responsibility in the situation.<br />

Forgive yourself again.<br />

REPEAT.<br />

And when you do these things… when you<br />

start to love time with yourself. When you are<br />

saying kind things to yourself… when you have<br />

the courage to go all in. When you stop worrying<br />

and truly surrender… when you forgive…<br />

when you do all this and more…<br />

Something happens within.<br />

A peace begins to take over. A peace that<br />

was not there before.<br />

Your energy shifts. It goes somewhere you<br />

didn’t know existed. Somewhere you couldn’t<br />

go while you were beating yourself up, shaming<br />

yourself, loathing on you… thinking you were<br />

completely incompetent and inadequate…<br />

feeling unworthy and not good enough… in that<br />

place… you couldn’t, you wouldn’t allow yourself<br />

to vibrate at the level of love. You couldn’t<br />

receive it.<br />

This feeling. The feeling of vibing high, joy,<br />

boundless love and freedom and abundance…<br />

it’s beyond words. It’s to be felt. And you will<br />

experience it different to me… but I can promise<br />

you… The feeling of infinite love and source<br />

energy streaming through, in the times when<br />

you allow it to… it’s worth every challenging part<br />

of the journey to get there.<br />

So now… you get to decide… are you ready<br />

to completely and fully let go? To totally surrender<br />

to that which is guiding you…<br />

We are all<br />

somewhere on the<br />

path… and knowing<br />

your truth around it<br />

is the first step. Do you<br />

want to love yourself?<br />

Do you want to go<br />

deeper into this path?<br />

If so… what are you<br />

willing to do to take<br />

And it’s this path that will have you healing<br />

yourself, those around you and the planet.<br />

I<br />

think that we all understand the importance<br />

of self-care, but it is something<br />

that can often be forgotten in the<br />

busyness of life. Imagine being able to<br />

have a massage every single day and<br />

it not costing you anything and taking only a<br />

couple minutes of your time.<br />

Firstly, let’s look at the benefits of massage<br />

and more specifically touch. When you experience<br />

the sensation of touch on your skin your<br />

nervous system automatically relaxes, this is<br />

one reason why massage is so relaxing. For<br />

some women who have experienced physical<br />

trauma in the past, the relaxation effect of<br />

touch is very quickly replaced with a sensation<br />

of fear or something similar. This is why some<br />

women don’t like to be touched and definitely<br />

don’t enjoy massages. Their natural relaxation<br />

trigger has been damaged and replaced with<br />

a stress response, self-massage is an easy and<br />

safe way to override this response and help the<br />

body to relax.<br />

take you about 2 minutes after your shower<br />

and will leave you feeling relaxed to start (or<br />
