WORD BOOK DAY – DRESSING UP & SPECIAL MENU
As part of our drive to maintain, promote and engage pupil interest in reading, the school is
participating in WORLD BOOK day on Thursday 7th March 2019. On this special day, your child is
invited to come to school dressed as a favourite character from any book and may like to bring this
book in with them if they have a copy of it.
It would be good to discuss with your child different characters from their favourite books. Again, the
dressing up possibilities are endless, for example: Oliver Twist, Fantastic Mr Fox, a Charlie and the
Chocolate Factory character, Matilda, Goldilocks, Mr and Mrs Twit, Gruffalo or Harry Potter. Costumes
do not need to be elaborate or expensive – making do with items already at home is a good idea! Of
course, dressing up is not compulsory!
Reading different books every evening in preparation would be great or even a trip to our fantastic
local library as a family; so get thinking and reading! Also during this week the children will be
participating in lots of exciting activities and will be able to share their own favourite book from home.
We look forward to seeing your child dressed up for the special day on Thursday 7th March and
sharing a love of books.
In order to mark World Book Day, Herts Catering will be providing a special ‘Horrid Henry’
themed menu on Thursday 7 th March (see over for the menu choices). This will replace the
normal menu for the day. If your child doesn’t usually have a school meal and would like
to try one on this day, please let the School Office know by Friday 1 st March 2019. All
pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to a Universal Infant Free School Meal each
day and as such, there is no charge for this special occasion if you are in one of these classes
(just let us know in advance). The cost for a KS2 meal is £2.45. This is a great opportunity to try
out our wonderful ‘home cooked’ menu – I can vouch for the quality of it as I eat it each day
myself!
We look forward to celebrating a fantastic World Book Day on Thursday 7 th March 2019. I
suppose I’d better get thinking about my costume over half term!
Yours sincerely
