udget 2019 Over the past several weeks, Council and senior staff have been working diligently on the 2019 Town of Clarenville Budget. Concerns and suggestions taken from the pre-budget consultations and the community as a whole, have been taken into consideration as part of this challenging process. The final 2019 Budget will be presented by Councillor Paul Tilley, Chair of Finance, on December 18th at 4:30pm. Town of Clarenville Community Updates - 2018/2019 Public Works update 2018 was a busy year for the Town of Clarenville’s Public Works Department as works were completed on Baggs Place, Balbo Drive, Manitoba Drive, Memorial Drive and Taverner Place. The combined investment to the Town’s infrastructure upgrades was approximately $2,100,000.00 and equates to: • 1,050m of new watermain/sewers • 5.21 lane km’s of new road asphalt • 1,600m of new concrete curb • 700m of new concrete sidewalk snow clearing Reminder to residents that vehicles are not permitted to be parked on the roadway during the winter season as they may hinder or impede the ploughing and/or removal of snow or ice from the streets. All such vehicles are subject to towing and/or ticketing by the RCMP. Also, residents and businesses removing snow from their property must do so such that it does not impede traffic or neighbouring properties. The Town of Clarenville is committed to community wellness. This year, not only have we continued to invest in our recreation facilities, we have adopted a healthy eating policy in Town facilities, and we have also committed resources towards improved mental health. Towards this end, in 2018, Council committed to build a new website and broadcast all public meetings of Council using Facebook Live. In early 2019 the Town of Clarenville will roll out its new website. (www.clarenville.ca) This site will feature an easy-to-use interface that will work on any device. Through the Town’s Offical Facebook Page, you can watch and interact with the biweekly public meetings of Council. An added feature is that all of these live meetings are archived for later viewing, any time and from any place. The response to these broadcasts has been outstanding - with an average of over 500 views per broadcast. Tune in and participate!
www.clarenville.net Follow us on Facebook 2018 highlights fire department update On the weekend of September 28th to October 1st hundreds of firefighters from across the province decended on Clarenville for the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Fire Services annual convention. Hosted by the Clarenville Fire Department, the convention included seminars, demonstrations, a trade show, banquet and memorial service. The event was a great opportunity for discussion and learning. Elizabeth Swan Park/Splash-pad CONGRATULATIONS to the members of the Clarenville Volunteer Fire Department! They have been named the 2018 Muscular Dystrophy Canada - Newfoundland & Labrador Fire Department of the Year! With the Christmas season upon us the Clarenville Fire Department reminds everyone to avoid overloading electrical outlets and power bars. Follow the instruction on your electrical lights and decorations and use only CSA (Canadian Standards Association) approved lights. Overloading electrical circuits can cause fire. The entire Clarenville Fire Department would like to wish the residents of Clarenville a Happy Christmas and Joyous New Year and all look forward to serving the community in 2019. Shoal Harbour Causeway Bridge Elizabeth Swan Park For over 30 years, Elizabeth Swan Park has served as the heart of many of our community events. Over the past 5 years, the Town has put a concerted effort into upgrading and modernizing Elizabeth Swan Park. A combined investment in excess of $2 million has allowed the construction of a new chalet, splash pad, playground, cook house, paved parking lot, concrete walkways and an upgraded concert venue. The grounds have been completely redone with trees, grass and a half-kilometer fully accessible paved walking track. In spring 2019, the playground will be completed and the Town will host the Grand Opening ceremony on Canada Day 2019. We look forward to seeing you at the Park!
