MISSION STATEMENT<br />

The Butterfield Park District’s mission is to promote<br />

ongoing development of a park system providing<br />

recreational opportunities for all residents. Butterfield<br />

Park District strives to offer diversified programs and<br />

activities encompassing personal enjoyment contributing<br />

to self-fulfillment and enhancing the quality of life.<br />

BOARD MEETINGS<br />

Park Board meetings are held on the second Thursday<br />

of the month (except for July) at 6:30pm at the<br />

Butterfield Park District Recreation & Aquatic Center.<br />

The public is welcome to attend. Board agendas are<br />

posted in the lobby of the recreation center 48 hours<br />

in advance of each meeting.<br />

BRIAN MCGARRY MEMORIAL FUND<br />

Brian McGarry was a long time Butterfield East<br />

neighbor, Butterfield Park District supporter, and<br />

volunteer for HYBC youth baseball. “Friends of<br />

Brian McGarry,” along with the Park District, have<br />

recognized Brian by creating a permanent recognition<br />

at Kensington Park, renaming the large ball field.<br />

CODE OF CONDUCT<br />

Violations of “Behavior Standards” or The Butterfield Park District’s “Code of Conduct” may result in the<br />

expulsion or suspension from a specific program or activity. Participation in behavior that may be<br />

construed as inappropriate and /or inappropriate sexual behavior, language or actions may be grounds<br />

for immediate removal from programs, as well as the potential for legal ramifications.<br />

Such ramifications resulting from violations will be carefully reviewed and subsequently administered at<br />

the sole discretion of the Executive Director of the Butterfield Park District and may also result in the loss or<br />

partial loss of fees paid. No harassment or bullying will be tolerated in the programs or services provided<br />

by the Butterfield Park District.<br />

REGISTRATION<br />

The Butterfield Park District has an online registration<br />

system for activities, pool memberships, rentals, camps,<br />

and aquatics. With online registration, participants<br />

can view, register and pay for Butterfield Park District’s<br />

many activities, including athletics, trips, camps,<br />

aquatics, and tennis! You can manage aquatic passes<br />

and punch cards online, as well as being able to check<br />

availability of facilities. Registration forms may be<br />

found online at butterfieldpd.com.<br />

Registration is also accepted via fax, mail or drop<br />

off. Phone registration is not accepted. A lock box<br />

is located just outside the front entrance for your<br />

convenience. Payments can be made in the form<br />

of check, credit card, or cash (exact amount is<br />

appreciated). Online and faxed registrations are<br />

accepted with credit card only.<br />

Please register by the deadline date to ensure<br />

classes meet the minimum number of participants.<br />

Registration for all classes should be submitted<br />

no later than one week prior to the start of the<br />

program unless otherwise noted within the<br />

program description. The Park District goal is that<br />

each class will have enough participation to ensure the<br />

class will run. Signing up early as well as encouraging<br />

friends will help to accomplish this goal.<br />

The Butterfield Park District provides some programs<br />

and services for its residents at lower rates than those<br />

charged to non-residents. Please check your tax bill to<br />

determine if you are within residency of the District.<br />

Refunds<br />

• Classes canceled by the Park District will result in a<br />

full refund.<br />

• Cancellation by a participant must be done two<br />

business days in advance to qualify for a full refund.<br />

• Pool passes are non-refundable.<br />

• Withdrawal from a program is refunded only after<br />

the first class, if not satisfied, with a doctor’s note,<br />

or with evidence of a move with written request.<br />

LATE OPENINGS & EARLY CLOSINGS<br />

In the event of a Butterfield Bullfrogs Home Swim Meet we will periodically<br />

have to shorten our hours of operation for public swim. During the <strong>2019</strong><br />

Butterfield Park District will host 5 home swim meets. Notifications will be<br />

placed throughout our Aquatics Center, at our Aquatic Customer Care Desk and<br />

posted outside our Aquatics Office. Updates will also be posted on Facebook<br />

and our website.<br />

Wednesday Swim Meets - Aquatic Center will close at 4:00pm<br />

Saturday Swim Meets – Aquatic Center will open at 1:00pm<br />

CLOSINGS<br />

The Butterfield Park District reserves the right to close the pool as deemed<br />

appropriate and necessary. The Aquatic Center may close for situations<br />

including, but not limited to:<br />

• Inclement Weather- thunder, lightning and heavy/continuous rain<br />

• Cold Air Temperatures- air temperature below 70 degrees<br />

• Low Attendance in the pool area – Less than 5 patrons for an hour<br />

• Conditions beyond our control – Mechanical, electrical, staff related issues, etc.<br />

AQUATIC CENTER REGULATIONS<br />

1. Aquatics staff reserves the right to ask any pool patron to leave if he/she is not following<br />

the rules.<br />

2. All persons entering the pool must wear regulation swim wear. Swimmers must wear a<br />

swim suit with a liner. No cutoffs, shorts, or t-shirts are allowed in the pool. Plain white<br />

t-shirts are the only other clothing allowed in the water and must be worn with a swim suit.<br />

3. Please shower before entering the pool.<br />

4. Children ages 11 years old and under must be accompanied by an adult or guardian<br />

18 years or older.<br />

5. Show your ID or pay pool fee at pool desk before entering locker rooms.<br />

6. Glass bottles or containers of any type are not permitted in the locker rooms,<br />

concession area, or pool.<br />

7. Food is prohibited in the pool area. The patio is designed for refreshments and snacks.<br />

8. Smoking of any kind is prohibited.<br />

9. Street shoes are not permitted on deck.<br />

10. Any person with any communicable disease, cuts, bandages or open wounds will not be<br />

allowed in the pool.<br />

11. Rafts, arm floaties, inner tubes (except during special events), Personal Floatation devices<br />

sewn into the bathing suit, or lifejackets, etc. are prohibited from use UNLESS USCG<br />

APPROVED. Personal flotation devices provided by the district will be allowed only and<br />

are available at no charge. BPD will provide USCG approved PFD’s.<br />

12. Non-water balls, torpedo toys, fins, and snorkels are not allowed in the pool. (Exception<br />

to fins/snorkels is for instructor led classes provided by the district only.)<br />

13. Due to increase of injury and slippery surface please refrain from running on the pool<br />

deck or in the locker room area.<br />

14. During the 15 minute break, everyone must clear the pool with the exception of adults<br />

(18 and older) who may stay in to swim.<br />

15. Loitering in the locker rooms is prohibited. Persons using the locker rooms must be<br />

changing or using the facilities.<br />

16. Strollers are not allowed to remain on the pool deck. Please park and lock wheels on<br />

grass areas only.<br />

17. Lounge chairs of any type are not permitted in the water. Please keep all pool chairs on<br />

the deck.<br />

18. The Leisure Pool is for children age 7 and under with direct supervision only.<br />

19. Children less than 36” will be permitted in the pool during adult swim with an adult. One<br />

child per adult.<br />

20. Non-swimmers and beginners are required to use the shallow end of the pool and must<br />

be supervised by an adult at all times.<br />

21. Disposable diapers are not allowed in the pool. We suggest a swim diaper.<br />

22. Diving is not permitted from the sides of the pool. Diving is permitted off the diving<br />

board only.<br />

23. Immediate Expulsion and Suspension will result from the following actions:<br />

• Throwing pool staff or another patron into the pool<br />

• Use or possession of drugs or alcohol<br />

• Vandalism of pool or pool areas<br />

• Refusal to follow rules and regulations<br />

24. Use of cell phones or tablets in locker rooms is not permitted. Use of electronic devices for<br />

recording of other patrons is not permitted in aquatics area.<br />

25. Scuba masks are not permitted.<br />

• Due to high enrollment, make ups are not allowed at any point during the swim season.<br />

• Please note: It is very common for a swimmer to repeat one level for several sessions.<br />

• We request that participants bring their own towel.<br />

• During swim lessons please remain on the concessions area or in the bleachers for observation.<br />

A: Learn to Swim Lessons will take place in the outdoor heated Leisure<br />

LITTLE SWIMMERS LESSONS<br />

Little Swimmers Lessons is an introduction to water for your<br />

young one. It is a great way for parents to work together with<br />

their child under instructor supervision. Through games and<br />

activities we make this experience fun so children learn to<br />

The Butterfield Bullfrogs Swim Team, premier DuPage<br />

Swim Club, offers children the chance to excel with their<br />

swimming talent while enjoying team fun and spirit. Open to<br />

swimmers at both recreational and competitive levels. The only requirement is<br />

the ability to swim the length of the pool (25 yards) without taking a break. As a<br />

member of the DuPage Swim & Dive Conference, the team swims 10 dual meets<br />

which occur on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings. At the end of the<br />

season, "A" and "B" conference championship meets are held. Swimmers are<br />

divided into age groups for practice and meets. Birth certificates are required for<br />

all new swimmers.Meets within the DuPage Swim and Dive Conference are only<br />

possible with the help and support of parents. Parents and guardians are required<br />

to sign up to volunteer at 5 of the 10 dual meets. Fees for swim team include:<br />

qualified coaches, practice sessions, Black and Gold in-house meet, team events<br />

CAMP SUPER TOT<br />

Preschool children ages 3-6 will enjoy a fun introduction to summer camp this summer held at the<br />

Butterfield Park District. Camp Super Tot will be held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from<br />

9:00-noon. Our staff is highly attuned to the insecurities of small children who may be going to camp for<br />

the first time. Throughout each day, emphasis is placed on learning social skills, taking turns, following<br />

directions, and learning independence. Arts and crafts, games, stories, songs, outdoor play, and snack<br />

make up the activities each day. The camp has a staff to camper ratio of 1/6 and is limited to a maximum<br />

of 24 children in each two week session. All children must be toilet trained. Camp activities also include<br />

YogaKids every Tuesday, pool time every Wednesday, and PeeWee Sportsters every Thursday. No online<br />

MAGIC<br />

Children are guaranteed to have a great time as they<br />

from the “Magic Team of Gary Kantor!” Amaze family<br />

and friends with tricks that involve cards, ropes, coins,<br />

CIT – COUNSELOR IN TRAINING<br />

If you're a teen and want to get an opportunity to<br />

learn first-hand what it takes to be a summer camp<br />

counselor, this is for you. All CITs will go through<br />

an interview process before being selected into<br />

the program. An application can be obtained at<br />

the Butterfield Park District office. Once selected,<br />

CITs will go through a series of meetings and<br />

training's before summer camp begins. Planning<br />

meetings will be required for CITs to attend<br />

throughout the summer. The fee includes T-Shirts,<br />

admission to field trips, trainings and swimming<br />

at the pool with camp. This program is designed to<br />

enhance the skills and knowledge to become a leader<br />

and to participate in team building activities.<br />

Program Offerings<br />

Planting the Seeds of Lifelong Learning<br />

The Learning Nest Preschool Program incorporates<br />

the Illinois State Board of Education Early Childhood<br />

Learning Standards and Jolly Phonics to educate your<br />

child. In addition to nurturing the development of<br />

your child’s social and emotional growth, we have<br />

put in place a program that builds a foundation<br />

necessary to support your child’s future academic<br />

challenges. Preschool runs continuously throughout<br />

the school year, observing the same holidays and<br />

no school day schedule as District 44 (Lombard).<br />

Children must be the appropriate age by September 1.<br />

There is a $100 NON-REFUNDABLE administrative fee<br />

to register. Preschool tuition is paid in equal monthly<br />

payments, based on the total number of attendance<br />

days within the entire school year. Tuition is<br />

processed monthly through auto debit unless<br />

Your child will love this Friday morning class full<br />

of fun and hands on experiences! Friday Fun Day<br />

includes sensory time, an hour and half creating<br />

arts and crafts, free play either in the gym or<br />

outside at our Preschool playground, enrichment,<br />

and much more! PEANUT FREE snack sign up will<br />

be at the beginning of each month! Please make<br />

snack accommodations with the Early Childhood<br />

Supervisor if your child has any other allergies<br />

that the teachers should know about. Our<br />

with something they created by hand, a new<br />

This class provides a warm, nurturing environment<br />

and is designed for children ages 2 - 3. Emphasis is<br />

on developing social skills and transitioning from<br />

home to school. Language development is supported<br />

through daily activities that include ABC's, counting,<br />

story time, games, music & movement, gym or outside<br />

time, and arts and crafts. Individualized "Play & Learn"<br />

Play Dough Mats will be sent home weekly to reinforce<br />

skills and concepts being introduced in the classroom.<br />

Note: Parents or loving Caregivers will be called for<br />

diaper changes and must arrive within 15 minutes of<br />

the phone call from Early Childhood Supervisor.<br />

a strong balance of academics and fun. Daily<br />

activities incorporate music and movement, games,<br />

arts and crafts into lessons on letter recognition,<br />

reading, math and science. Our staff recognizes each<br />

child's unique rate of development and therefore<br />

our curriculum focuses on different levels of ability,<br />

individual needs and learning styles. Student<br />

activities are designed to promote each child's<br />

self-esteem and a positive outlook toward<br />

learning, while striving to instill independence and<br />
