new apprentices. We also train
nearly 3,000 nursery staff every
year, helping them successfully
complete their childcare
apprenticeship training.
This month, we talk to Julie Allen,
Parenta’s Recruitment Manager
and discover how she and her
team manage these successful relationships with both recruiters and learners and get great results!

What is the role of a Parenta recruiter?
The role of a Parenta recruiter is truly unique!
From liaising with students still in education,
right the way up to directors responsible
for a large chain of nurseries, no day is the
same … which is why the team have their
finger firmly on the pulse, and are always on
their toes!
How do you know what settings want?
We send each setting that comes to us for
assistance, a survey to complete. This allows
us to be able to advertise their vacancies
to meet their individual requirements.
No setting is the same and our bespoke
recruitment service is free of charge. We
will then screen the applications we receive,
and only submit candidates that meet the
setting’s requirements - this saves them
precious time. We also proactively search
for candidates that we know meet their
requirements.
How do you get in touch with potential
candidates?
The team engage with candidates via email,
telephone, SMS, and social media. We
also meet candidates within their current
education environment during careers talks
and events.
Do you help candidates before they go
for an interview?
Our recruiters conduct a mock interview over
the telephone with the candidates giving
them the very best chance of success at their
face-to-face interview.
What’s the most rewarding part of being
a recruiter?
Without a doubt, the most rewarding part
of being a recruiter within this industry
is changing people’s lives using our
exceptional AIG (advice, information and
guidance). From the moment they choose a
career in childcare, we fill candidates with
the passion we have for the sector, setting
them up for an outstanding and rewarding
career. There is nothing like giving a person
the lovely news that they have secured
themselves a job!
What is the most challenging part of a
recruiter’s role?
At times, being able to motivate the
candidates over the telephone. Every person
is different and some people are naturally
self-motivated, some verbally, and some
need to be motivated in person.
What are the biggest changes you’ve
seen over the past few years?
Within the industry, we have seen huge
changes - mainly implemented by the
government - so we as a provider have little
say in things like levy and contributions. Each
change always sets out a new challenge for
any provider, but we as a team are super
resilient and embrace them.
