I finish just below mid pack in 20th.<br />
Respectable, especially given the level of<br />
my fellow FIM riders. Now I can relax.<br />
The following five days’ racing are<br />
a blur of learning navigation skills,<br />
finding my comfort level on a 450 in the<br />
desert and trying to avoid crashing.<br />
I am purposely not looking at my<br />
position or my times. I’m here to finish.<br />
My intentions are clear and I’m focused<br />
on not getting lost and not crashing.<br />
The terrain varies wildly. We have huge,<br />
open, dry river beds (oueds), virgin<br />
predictable sand, but scattered with<br />
wheel-size rocks and hidden gullies.<br />
